How Do You Fix...

Please help, lol!! My friend needed to touch up her roots and has had a box of hair dye in her bathroom that she's been meaning to do for like WEEKS now...anyway, last night I finally convinced her to just get it done.

Once we started mixing it, I noticed that it was dye for doing highlights, but we figured it wouldn't be TOO different and carried on. So we got it all in and I could see her hair getting lighter and lighter and we went back and touched up a couple spots we'd missed about halfway through.

When she washed it out - her hair is like BRIGHT sunshine yellow, lol. She's resorted to wearing a hat because it's quite shocking, lol. Except the worst part is...it's not ALL of her hair that is this color - we only did her roots, lol, and she's got long hair. Oh, and there's a BIG patch where we missed in the back, lol. I told her to keep her hair tied back to cover that spot, but then you see other smaller bits where it didn't take quite as well, lol. Oiy.

Now we're trying to find a way to tone this down a bit...without having to re-dye her hair. Anyone able to help? LOL!

OMG!! Did you take pictures?? You have to share if you did.

I'm not much help, really. She could possibly go to a salon and have them strip her hair - but that may not work since it's highlights. Re-dying might be your only option.

I'd just have her go to a salon and fix her... This is why I never JUst do my roots. You could either re-dye the streaks from root to tip in a colour that's inbtwn the flourescent and existent.. or re-dye her whole head and start over.. or something- but at this point it's prolly safer to just go to the salon :p

Yeah that's what we were afraid of. Unfortunately, salon and re-dying aren't an option...she's got $23 to her name and she needs that to switch a tire on her truck today (it's worn right through and you can see the wires) - it costs exactly $23, lol.

that happened to my niece this summer. She went to the salon and asked for red highlights ...thinking you know auburn red or at least a color of red you would really expect to see on someone's hair. She ended up with crayola red highlights. We're talking Ronald Mcdonald here. We were on the way to go camping at the beach so we stopped at walmart and bought a box of brown (had to go darker and she is blonde, so brown was the only choice) Loreal hair color and I colored her hair right there at the campsite, lol. It turned out much much much better. the brown didn't go too dark and it covered up the red well. I think yellow would be even easier to cover up. And Loreal haircolor is really gentle and didn't harm her hair in the slightest, and we did it the very same day the colorist put the red in. I don't think it would hurt to do one more home job to see what happens.

I am a hair stylist..that is a messy job to fix.
I would recomend she see her stylist to get a more low matniece color from her stylist.

Hahahahaha, Bree! You are always doing something to get into trouble aren't you?? Too funny!

Looks like Kathlene will be wearing a cap until she can afford a salon!

Thankfully this time I can claim that I didn't do it. SHE bought the dye...SHE applied it (I just stood there and watched). I did the bits she "missed" halfway through - and told her after a half hour that she'd better not wait the full 45 minutes because it was going to turn REALLY blonde, lol. So...NOT my fault this time around! :D

The other option is have her call the hotline number on the box (if you still have it) - they usually can provide advice on what to do. I did that a few years ago when I really messed up my hair with Miss Clairol (that's why I never use the stuff anymore) - turned it bright orangey-pink. My husband still gets nervous when I color my hair since that incident, but I've not had problems with L'Oreal once I switched to that brand. At any rate, I called the Clairol hotline and we worked out a solution and the timing - I ended up getting a haircolor to offset from a beauty supply store and doing it myself, following the hotline lady's advice. It might be that you can lend her the $7 to get a new haircolor per the hotline's advice....
