NSBR: The smell of vomit?!?

OK, it's been a rough day... and it started with Riley puking all over herself and my van at the beginning of a 2-hour road trip. Of course there was no way I could continue the journey, so I used a friend's car to take Riley home while everyone else continued on in the van. We thought we had scrubbed enough and used enough Fabreeze to get the smell out, but when Jaime got home he said it was miserable the whole way there and back.

What in the world am I going to do. How do you get vomit smell out of fabric? It's the worst smell EVER. Any tips are appreciated! TIA!

oh my laura! i have no clue. baking soda and water?? baking powder?? peroxide?? no clue.

try sprinkling baking soda in the van overnight and vacuuming the next day. Also get some vanilla extract and soak some rags with it and let them sit in there overnight (or a few days). If you have one of those car cleaning/vacuum places where you wash the car yourself (like a self-detailing place) alot of times the vacuums will have upholstry cleaners with a really good deoderizing soap type cleaner and that might help if the above doesnt.

baking soda, oxy clean, or a combination of the two.

oh and BTW....I had an organic stain like that before that was really tough and resistant...it wouldn't come out for ANYTHING...(it was gentian violet) and let me tell you what got it out...putting it in a large rubbermaid bowl filled with hot water and oxy clean and shutting a lid on it. I let it sit overnight and it was gone! It had sat in sinks of water overnight, but shutting it in let it work somehow.

Ugh!!!!!!! I am so sorry this happened! I second taking it to one of those detail places and see what they can do.

A detail shop isn't really an option for us since we can't really communicate and I doubt we'll want to pay what they charge... and in Euros. But, if nothing else helps, I'll have to find one.

Thanks for the tips so far. I'll see if I can find some Oxyclean at the PX or Commissary. I sure hope it works.

oh and by the way...LOL...I know you can't put the whole van in a rubbermaid box. I was thinking along the lines of if you could remove the fabric. I just reread my post and realized it sounded funny.

I'd go with the baking soda or OxyClean...but if that doesn't work, you might want to try the enzyme-fighting upholstery cleaners like UrineBeGone...if it'll kill the smell of cat pee, it should work on vomit.

Oxyclean works well, make a paste with it and scrub it in good, it might take a bit to get out, but it'll work.
