So Saturday morning my water froze. The weather here has been wicked cold, so I had a feeling it might happen. We have a water bleeder (not sure the mechanics of the whole thing, but it keeps water running so that it doesn't freeze) but the city told us not to turn it on until Jan 22nd.
Anyways, it happened on a weekend, and there was no way we could afford to pay the city the weekend fix rate ($250/hr weekdays, $400/hr Sat, and $650/ Sun) So we went all weekend without water and told them we would have to wait until Mon. They came to fix it this morning and tell us "Oh we sent out notices that you could turn your bleeder on early this year"...so ya it was their fault our water froze, and it was going to be free to thaw it out. Great that it was free, but if they would have just given us the notice there wouldn't be any problem to fix.
And now, after the water was fixed...now the sewer is frozen and if we use any water, it comes up in our basement! So they are going to TRY and come un-freeze the sewer.
This happened a few years ago, and by the time they got the sewer thawed, the waterlines froze again:(
Thanks for letting me vent!
