The School Bus...

We've had some really bizarre weather here...snowing, then deep freeze, then melting, then snowing and melting...it's NOT normal for this time of year here. But, it's made the roads absolute CRAP, especially the back roads.

Mason goes to school in the next town over...it's 10 minutes away, so he's bussed and they pick up the country kids on their way, zigging and zagging through these country roads. Well...TODAY...the bus gets STUCK on the way home...not even 3 miles away from the school (and from talking to the secretary, getting directions on how to go get him, it sounds like they're like 1 mile away from the school...go 1 mile east from the school, north 1 mile, west 1 mile). I don't think they even got to drop any kids off, lol.

I'm told that the bus isn't in the ditch, but the road is so slippery that the driver can't get it moving...the department of transportation or whatever is on their way out to try and get the road sanded and salted and get the bus moving, but DH is out there looking for them to pick up Mason, and he says there's a bunch of other parents out there looking too.

I think in my entire school career (I was a "country" kid but not in this area), the bus only got stuck once, lol. It's just so bizarre to me, it never really crossed my mind that it could happen, but I guess it can!

Yikes! I hope T can find them soon. Even if it's just stuck and not in a ditch, that has to be a bit frightening for the kids. D's bus (12 passenger van really) got stuck in our driveway last winter. It took them nearly 20 minutes to get unstuck.

DH just phoned and said he found them and has Mason, they're on their way home. AND it was a Kindergarten day today, so I can just imagine what that bus was like...full of hysterical kids, lol. The school is only K-6, so they're all pretty young.

I remember one time.. my HS was on a hill.. and anyway it snows bad here sometimes.. and one time most of the kids didn't go in/take the bus that day.. but me and a kid that lived downt he street did- we had no other way.. so after fighting our way for the 15 minute walk through the snow (which turned into way longer).. waiting for like an hour for the bus...... our bus got stuck going up the hills near our school ^_^ so we had to walk the rest of the way anyway.. it was no fun.
that is my very boring story. haha

All the kids bus to school here (well, other than those that are in walking distance to the school), and they have never not made it, even when the roads are icy. But our district sends out the sand trucks and run the through the bus routes right before the buses come, so less chance of anything happening!
(side note, the other morning it was so cold, the buses came early, and waited at each stop so that no kids had to stand outside in the cold! So sweet!)

glad they let you get your son off the bus. My son was in a bus accident last year and it happened directly in front of our house. The bus was fine just a busted headlight and I went out to get my son off the bus and the bus driver said she would not be able to release him until her supervisor got to the accident scene.

Wow, that's crazy! Glad everything is ok!

When DH got there he found out they'd evacuated the kids from the bus and taken them to the farmhouse right there. I guess the (elderly) couple that lives there saw the bus out there for 10 minutes and went to investigate, and invited the WHOLE busload of kids in for cookies, popcorn and juice while the school notified all the parents and they WERE waiting for another bus to finish it's run and pick up the kids.

I thought that was so sweet of the couple. Mason said a lot of the kids were crying and scared...poor kiddos!

I am so glad those people were so nice. How scary for you and your DH. Hope you guys have a nice a cozy weekend... and don't need to be out on the roads.

What a sweet couple! And poor kiddos, mine would have probably thought it was coolio. LOL!

The roads were similar to this today here too, really slick.

My school is on a hill. A big hill. And Amanda was texting me in a panic because the bus was sliding down the hill.
I know how you feel.
