Random pondering about pregnancy cravings

Bree's post about PB cookies made me think of this.

Have any of you noticed a correlation between your pregnancy cravings and the things your kids eat?

With Jacob it was peanut butter and oranges. I swear I ate PB every day...seriously....every day, and anything orange. Oranges, orange tea, orange jello...I even had to have orange scented things. Jacob will just eat bowls of peanut butter. And he is always asking for oranges or orange juice.

With Braden it was jalepenos. I ate so many of them, Brandon bought me a gigantic jar at Costco. Since he was 1, Braden has loved salsa, chili, taquitos...anything spicy.

Wierd?

My mom ate a box of Cheez-it's a day when she was pregnant with me.

I  Cheez-its, and almost all things cheese. :)

My mom ate a cheese and onion sandwich everyday when she was pregnant with me.. but I HATE onions. LOL!

With Mason, I ate baked potatos and grilled cheese ALL the time (not necessarily a craving - we lived in a tiny apartment and I was pregnant through the summer...the apartment had sun ALL day and it was SOOO hot...so those were the only things I could handle preparing). He never really asks for them, though. Natalie LOVES grilled cheese, but I never ate that with her, lol.

I never really had cravings though...weird?

With my third baby, I had a lot of chips and salsa. Mexican food galore. She is now three and LOVES Mexican food. She can eat salsa that I think is too hot. She can down those hot cheetos like they are candy.

LOL! Yes!!!

When I was pregnant with JP, I ate barbecue chicken with mac & cheese for dinner nearly every day. Seriously, if I didn't eat that, it was only because I wasn't home. And I hate hot dog with barbecue sauce for lunch, same deal. JP is a barbecue sauce FIEND. He can't get enough of it. He tries new flavors whenever he can, and just...well, he'd drink it if he could. He's also a big fan of mac & cheese and hot dogs too. LOL!!

Devin's got so many texture issues with food that I'm not sure if he really likes anything I craved while pregnant. I know he doesn't like biscuits and gravy, which is something I ate every chance I had while pregnant. (I could only eat the b&g from Cracker Barrel, lol!) He loves rolls and bread, which is something I ate constantly. Other than that, I can't pinpoint anything.

I never really had any cravings with Avalynne. Except near the end I couldn't get enough of sliced Granny Smith apples dipped in peanut butter, then dipped in rice krispies. Strange, I know. But SO good! Ava likes applesauce and such, but doesn't get apple pieces yet, and since she's only 1, no peanut butter yet. We'll see soon enough though.

Oh, and my mom had a serious craving for grapefruit when she was pregnant with me (weird cause she hates grapefruit, lol), and I love them... even without sugar. I'll take a glass of grapefruit juice over orange any day!

Hmm I hadn't thought about it much...

Benjamin - craved oranges and tomatoes. He loves oranges and orange juice, hates tomatoes

Amelia - Marshmallow cereal, mostly, like Lucky Charms. She doesn't like. I did eat a lot of McDonald's since I worked there throughout the pregnancy, and she does enjoy that LOL

Rae - craved nothing because I was sick as a frickin dog and on meds til month 7. She hardly eats. Coincidence? LOL

Not at all with DS1 he was a really picky eater up until he was about 8 (he's 15 now) He did love pickles though (not me so much)

DS2 I ate a ton of spicy foods and he loves spicy stuff to the ends of the earth. He is NOT a picky eater at all, never was and will try pretty much anything. He was taking 6 ounces of formula before we even left the hospital :)

The twins....I really did not have cravings for anything much for the first 3 months and after that I ate pretty much anything and they do too. Tyler is not a big meat eater but Matthew will eat pretty much anything.

I had cravings for French Apple Cream Cheese pie with all of my kids and NONE of them like it. I also drank a ton of milk and apple juice (all of them love both) Can't drink either of those things unless I am preggo

With all 3 of mine I craved Mexican food all the time, it seems like we ate at places Carlos O'Kelly's, Chipotle, Taco Shop, Taco Bell or Taco Tico weekly lol! Now all three of mine love Mexican food too, which is a good thing cause we still eat a lot of it!

I also craved lots of salads, fresh fruits and also veggies with ranch dip and all of the kids love all of those things too!

I never had too many cravings...I could have eaten nothing but cheese and chocolate and been perfectly happy, but that goes for when I'm not pregnant, too. With this last pregnancy I went through a watermelon phase, but that's really the only craving I had through 3 pregnancies. Jason didn't like cheese much when he was little, though he came around about age 3. He's always loved chocolate, but no surprise there. Ben likes cheese and chocolate.

My cravings lasted about a month at a time before I moved onto a new craving. The last craving I had for the last month was gas station nachos with lots of jalepenos. Nicholas does love spicy food.

Kassi won't eat anything I craved when I was pregnant. Except the sweet stuff- the kid goes nuts over anything chocolate.

I remember reading a few articles for a class about pregnancy cravings being directly related to your child. I wish I could remember where I read the articles at.
I know it said that studies have shown that your cravings aren't what you crave but what your baby craves.
I guess if you think about it, what you eat your baby eats, therefore its likely your baby will enjoy those foods later in life.

Yes!!! OMG! I ate a TON of string cheese and now Sophie loooves it! She also likes pickles which I think is kinda strange for a one year old, but I must admit, as cliche as it is I ate pickles when I was preggers.:p

Are you ready?
With Amanda I wanted green popsicles and brown sugar Pop Tarts. She eats them both every chance she gets.
With Bryan it was chocolate eclair pies, the little kind. He LOVES eclairs
With Sara it was Chinese food. SHe would pinch me if I mentioned it. She asks for chinese on her birthday every year.
And with Natalie and Derek it was pork chops. Oh, and ice cream. I am allergic to dairy and I wasn't during my last pregnancy. But they hate pork chops and they are allergic to ice cream....I loved pickles before this pregnancy and haven't had a sing pickle since. They are 5 and the smell still makes me sick.
I am baffled.

I didn't have cravings. I had food aversions. There were long periods of time in both my pregnancies when all I could bring myself to eat were Cheerios, apples, oranges & carrots. Everything else disgusted me.

Both my kids are picky eaters.

And they won't eat carrots

I couldn't cook meat...well I could, but if I did, I couldn't eat it afterwards. It wouldn't taste like the meat it was supposed to be (like...I made lasagne one night...I tried to eat it, but it tasted like pork sausages to me...wth) lol. DH would have to cook the meat and then I could finish preparing supper, but I could be nowhere near the meat while it cooked.

with my daughter it was chili/cheese hotdogs and slimjims. She does eat alot of chili/cheese fries but not hotdogs. With my middle son it was pickles. He loves pickles. I dont remember craving anything in particular with my youngest though. What IS wierd to me is that now I CANNOT eat anything I craved while pregnant. It makes me nauseous

With all three pregnancies now I've only ever REALLY craved fruit...any and every way I coudl get it. Both my girls love it but its so sweet that they might anyway.

My I can't stand tomoato based products when pregnant though, I'll be hoving the porcelin throne if I eat them and both the girls love tomatoes or "toes" as they call them.

With Abby it was taco bell and onion rings. She won't touch onion rings. I hate onion rings and only ate them when I was pg w/ her.

JJ.. mexican and lots of it. He will eat anything mexican and spicy. loves salsa.
