When scanning photos...

What resolution should I scan them in at? And what compression (if any)? And should I use standard or progressive scanning? I got a new scanner for my birthday, and I'm trying to figure out the best settings. I don't want humongo files, but I want them to be usable for digi. Thanks!

If you're planning on using them bigger than their original size, go with 600dpi...they can be shrunk down if you want afterwards. The files will be 2x the size than if you go with 300dpi. Don't go lower than 300, though.
