I went to the doctors today for headaches Ive been having since a car accident in November. Well he prescribed Treximet as one of the medications to try to help with them. Im kinda wondering after seeing that these pills cost 20 dollars a piece is it really worth it? I dont have insurnace so we would be paying out of pocket for them. If you have tried this medication does it help? any side effects? Anything else you can tell me?

Jessica, have you ever used Imitrex? Treximet is that with Aleve added to it. For me, Imitrex never worked, so Treximet wouldn't be worth my time or money.

I havent tried anything. I had headaches before the accident but not at the frequency or the intensity they are now. I had one that lasted almot three full days straight. The first prescription is free though so Im going to try it. is Imitrex cheaper?

I haven't tried this, but maybe someone who has tried the Imitrix could help you out? It looks like it is Imitrix and Napoxen Sodium(the same stuff that is in Aleve). Are you having migraine type of headaches?

The Naproxen is generally for pains where there is some sort of inflammation(I used to work at Syntex-where they formulated the stuff) and it is really good for things like tweaked muscles and arthritis pain. And, the Imitrix is a migraine med.... so, if your Dr has been treating you and has built up to this new medication, then you should proabbly try it. If you have not--like only used Ibuprofen(Advil) and are jumping to this, I would ask to try just the Naproxen or just the Imitrex alone before going to a combination medication. Especially with that price! Good luck

No have only tried OTC meds but Ive tried Aleve, Advil, tylenol and percogesic which I think is another acetemenophine. none of them really help. Im assuming it is migraines because I have headache combined with nausea, light sensitivity and sound sensitivity. The doctor seems pretty sure the headaaches are coming from the accident because I have admaged disks and he said my muscles in my neck and upper back are really tight

Imitrex is my drug of choice when I have a migraine. Treximet is brand new. I'd ask the dr if you can try Imitrex (it comes generic) and you can take Naproxen with it to get the same combo as Treximet. Naproxen is an anti inflammatory that works sort of like Advil.

In order for Imitrex to really work for me though, I have to take it and be able to just sleep it off...

well its another four weeks til I got back to the dr so I guess Ill see how things go. He also prescribed some muscle relaxers to help with the tension in my neck from the accident. He thinks alot of the headaches are caused from the damaged disks and the muscle being so tight all the time. He also wants to do nerve testing because he thinks there might be a pinched nerve

was it flexeril (cyclobenzaprine or something like that) it did WONDERS for my headaches/muscle tension too but man I felt hungover from them. I had to change to Methocarbamol when I knew I had to get up the next morning and function. Luckily I didn't take them too often..just when I had a bad bad one esp at night.

Yes, I take Treximet!! I really like it because it works very quickly for me. I think it is that combination of the migraine med + Naproxen Sodium (aleve). They are rediculously expensive for sure. I am lucky enough to get samples from my Doctor (I used to work there) so that helps a lot. If you can get some samples, they usually have a $25.00 off coupon with them. I just used my free trial coupon at the pharmacy to get 9 free tablets. As far as side effects, I get a little sleepy, sometimes I find it a little more difficult to breathe (or I feel like I have to take a deep breath) and some tingly feelings. I would much rather have those symptoms than the migraine though :)

Now, I will say that I have been on so many other migraine meds and I like this one almost the best. My body just gets used to the migraine med and then doesn't work any more. That is why I've been on so many!! I have tried Imitrex, Frova, Axert, Zomig, Maxalt, Amerge ( I like this one the best besides Treximet). I hope this helps a little!!

I've been on a lot too Laura..I used to get a migraine every 2 weeks...I know it was stress related. Maxalt MLT was my other fave besides Imitrex...Zomig was ok. I haven't tried any of the others..thankfully I'm down to an Imitrex every 3-4 months now..knock on wood it stays that way!

It's no fun to have that many migraines, is it?! I get probably 3-4 migraines a month. That is great that you are down to only every 3-4 months!! I hope mine won't be as frequent as I get older. My grandmother had them and she said that they just went away when she was in her 40's!

yea thats it. I thought it would make me tired but I took it around 9 and Im still not sleepy. He also prescribed a med called mobic which he said is like advil but stronger then OTC kind. Im hoping these will all help with the pain. I can live with some of it but its been three months since the accident and it seems like it has gotten worse in that time and not really any better.

Add me to the list of people that Imitrex did not work for. I've had migraines since I was 15. I have tried several meds. The only thing that works for me now is Relpax and those are pretty darn expensive too. I think right around the same price you are paying so thankfully I have insurance! If I were you I'd tell your doc you don't have insurance and is there anything you could try that has a generic brand. He may take pity and give you free meds from samples or he may write you a new script. Good luck!

Oh and are you seeing a neurologist for these headaches or just a regular doc? I have to say that until I saw a neuro I had no help.
