How to save $200 in 15 minutes...

I learned a big lesson yesterday...It pays to shop around. Big time. After reading La's thread, I got to thinking. I've been going through Progressive for car insurance, and I've been happy, but after reading that thread I got a quote through geico and saved almost $200. That's a HUGE chunk of change. So everyone, shop around! Print off your declarations page from your current insurance so you're comparing apples to apples, and see what you can get. This is the second time that I've switched back to Geico; they and Progressive seem to have the most competitive rates for our situation. I'm going to go and do this same thing in May when our homeowners insurance expires.

So go shopping!

It's true! I used to go with Safe Auto for years b/c I assumed they'd be the lowest. Not! I saved hundreds by going to General Assurance back in November. When I moved to KY though I had to switch again to a company that insures in KY.

I spent all day before learning that Progressive was the best plan for us, this time atleast :)

Yay for you saving that kind of money!

Isn't it amazing how each company is different? We have been with State Farm since we've been married and I went to Geico and plugged in the same coverage that we have with State Farm and Geico is actually $25 more for me than I pay now.

Yeah, we go back and forth between geico and progressive. I never know which one will be cheaper. But it never hurts to check!

It must depend on where you live or something. We have state farm and for one of our vehicles, we pay $157, the same exact coverage from progressive was $273.

OMG I've been with Progressive for so long I'm not sure I could ever leave them. They've treated me very well. lol

I am sooooo happy to hear this! I've worked for Progressive for close to 12 years! I oversee customer service for two states and we are dedicated to pleasing our customers.

I work on the claims side of things, so I don't know that much about rates. I will say that the regulations mandated by the insurance commissioner for each state are different, so that accounts for some rate differences. Not all auto insurance companies use the same methodology for determing rates. Some weight accident frequency more substantially, etc ... Progressive offers a "name your own price" option, which I think is pretty cool.
