How often do you have your kids portraits taken?

OK, every year, I've had a formal photo of Rachel taken at Christmastime. For whatever reason, I didn't get around to it this past year, so I kind of cheated and had it done with her Valentine's photo.
I've had some parents tell me that when the first few years, they did portraits every couple months, and as they get older, maybe twice a year tops. I noticed that this past year I had fewer taken, but some of that was financial, not because of desire on my part. I think this year we'll hopefully be back to getting them done at least 4 times a year.
So just out of curiosity, how often do you have your kids' pics taken? And how often do you do a family portrait?

And of course I have to share...picking the pics up tomorrow and then I'm probably going to spend more bucks at Garden Ridge on frames (I'm cheap and will NOT pay for the studio to mat and frame pics for me)

The first two on the left are my favorite ones...

Well, take my kids portraits myself since I'm a photographer, but I still only do it formally 2 times/year -- their birthday and Christmas. Fortunately, those just happen to be around 6 months apart, so it works out great. We try to do a family portrait at Christmas too.

Too dang often! With my 5 year old, I did monthly pictures her first year, then 15, 18, 21, and 24 months. After that I just do holiday and birthday.

But now that we have a baby again, I feel like I've been taking them in every month. With my baby I did newborn, 1month, 2months, 3 months, 6months, 9months, holiday, and one year. I've decided I'm not taking either of them in again until July. The baby will be 18 months at that point, and my 5 year old will be 5.5, and I'll get one of them together too.

what a cutie!

With my first one, I used to take them 3-4x a year for the first 3 years. Maybe one of those would be with all of us. Some just with DS and me(:p)

With my second, I had maybe 2 the first year and then never again.... bad mommy....

We had family portraits taken in the Mountains when DS2 was 4.

Basically after my first, I haven't been so on top of it. My photography has also gotten a lot better, and I don't feel like I have to do it as often because a lot of just 'snapshots' capture where the kids are in development and their personalities well.

My reply probably didn't help, huh?

Not often enough. Haven't done them formally in a long while -- but mostly because I spend too much when I do it. :(

The photos are fabulous!

I haven't taken the boys to a studio for photos since they were 6 & 3 (they're now 9 & 6). It really did become to expensive for us, and Devin became less than agreeable to going because he's afraid of the backdrop thing, lol!

Anyway, I tend to gather the hooligans as often as I can to take informal and formal photos of them for portraits. The last set was done in November/December.

BTW, your pictures are beautiful! Your daughter is a gorgeous girl!

with the first two, I had their portraits done at newborn, 6 months, 1 year, 18 months and then every year around their birthday ... until the third child arrived. lol Then we were lucky to get a portrait at all. And Family pics were also done once a year until that third child arrived ... I am such an awful parent ... there are NO portraits of us with just three kids, and none of that third kid, until the FOURTH child arrived 2.5 years later.

I don't like studios... I got spoiled with our family pics last November and now I don't think I'd want to settle for anything less... and I can only afford that once a year. I can take better photos than any of the mall studios here anyway.

What adorable pics of your beautiful girl!! :)

My plan was every six months. But it really hasn't panned out that way. Financially and because we get too busy and I forget. So it has ended up being once a year the last few times. It is actually that time again. I am a sucker for having everyone match so I am currently looking for cute Eater clothes that match. By April I hope to have them taken.

I did newborn, 3, 6, 9, 12 & 18 Months. Then yearly after that. His birthday is in September so if I do Christmas, too, its too close to the birthday ones. This year we also did a Valentines Day mini-session cause they place we were going had a fun little special going on.

Twice a year. I do abby's birthday and christmas pictures together in November and then J's pictures in February.

First year we did 3m, 6m, 9m, 1 year, 18m, and now just yearly plus yearly family pictures.
We dont buy large packages or anything so we can afford to go often. I just get a 8x10 and some wallets or 5x7s to give out as gifts.

I haven't had "formal portraits" taken in years. I take plenty of pictures of my kids though. :) And I have a friend who is a photographer who lives out of state... a couple of times when she has been in town I've been able to get a mini-photo shoot with her and ended up with lots of great pictures. :)

So, the only kind of photography I will pay for, less frequently (maybe 1-2 times a year, if that) is from a professional photographer in an outdoor studio. It seems to hit/miss to go for portrait studio pictures... sometimes they turn out great, other times they turn out .

we did my son every month for his first year and the second year every 3 months...now we do it 2 times a year plus christmas...

From the time he developed stranger anxiety as an infant, my oldest has never done well at portrait studios. He still gets upset when we go, so we only go once a year. It's also expensive because we buy 1 of each kid, a group photo of the kids, and 7 copies of the family photo to share with relatives.

With my older 2 kids we photographed different stages, newborn, 2 months (which was a religious picture), 4 months, sitting (around 6 months), pulling up to standing (around 9 months), 1 year, 18 months, and then yearly. My poor third child doesn't even have half that many. I feel SO guilty about that!

I had good intentions when Mason was born - I took him in at 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 18 months...

Then Natalie was born, and she got a portrait at 3 weeks, then 3 months...that was it.

Mason's gotten them from school the last 2 years, but Natalie hasn't gotten any. I had every intention of taking her in since Mason had a school picture, but it's something that we never got to. I still need to take her in though...sheesh, it's pathetic!!
