Male hairdressers....

...make me nervous. Seriously. I got my hair done today and the result was FABULOUS... but I felt like he was judging me the whole time.

*washing my hair*
Him: So, what shampoo do you use?
Me.... hesitantly: I think I use Herbal Essences right now.
Him: *sigh* And do you color your own hair?
Me: Yes.
Him: OY!

It was kinda like that the whole appointment. haha

At least the cut ended up being fabulous! Although, he did guilt me into buying some hair product "to smooth out all that frizz."

:D :D

the thing is though. the male ones are the ones that do the best job! all my good cuts have been done by guy hairdressers. my hairdresser for my wedding was a guy - loved him!

yup, they are the best stylists - although after getting to "know" hairdressers, the whole attitude about shampoo/conditioners & coloring is that they make money off you getting stuff from their salon.

The person who cleans your teeth at the dentist make me feel like that. Do you floss? Yes. Is this how you are doing it? Yes. Do you brush at night? etc, etc. lol

I'm telling your friend you said that :P

hahahaa she isn't technically a hairdresser - she only "does" manicures, pedicures, gel nails, waxing and hot stone massage. hehee The only hair she cuts is my family, cause I am too dang cheap to go to a real hairdresser. hahahahaaa

LOL! you ladies are funny!

I still only go to my lady friends that are stylists.

I do have a few male friends that are stylist and they are some of the best I know!

I have noticed alot from training male stylists... they seem to take on a different view of styling then women do.

I think the best stylist are the ones who really care what they do. Who have the greatest passion for it.

I love a good male stylist! My first male stylist assured me that he was straight and said he had the best job possible. He said that he loved to make women look and feel beautiful on a daily basis. I miss him...

I've had the same hairdresser for 10 years and HE is fantastic and the only one I trust.

Hairdressers in general would prefer you use their shampoo and products and get them to colour your hair - it's just business and normal questions.

Up until we moved to Germany I only had male hairdressers. One since high school and then when he moved (when I was about 29) I found another. I have a female here and though she's a'right, I miss my hairdresser back home.

Meghan, I used to ask the same questions when I was a hairdresser actually so I think it actually depends on the hairdresser. I was a shampoo/color snob when I was a hairdresser but that was before I had to pay full price for colors/products. LOL! Now I'm not so picky and I color my hair at home and buy certain products they sell in the drugstores. I do tend to buy brands that make professional products to so I'm still somewhat of a snob! LOL!

My mom has had a male hairdresser for years. When I was living up there, I tried going to him, but he was so rough when he washed my hair that I had to get someone else. Getting my hair washed/scalp rubbed is my favorite part, and he would just JAB his fingers into my head. Youch.

I didn't feel too bad since he and his boyfriend owned the salon, so he'd make money no matter who I went to there. :)

When I've had my hair done by a man, I always have loved it!

I even had a male eye brow person from the Brow Bar at Macys. He did an awesome job. My sister and I had our eyebrows done at the same time. I got the guy, she got the girl. Mine were so much better!

I get the same questions from female hairdressers too if I am a new client. I had my hair cut yesterday and she asked me all that.

Odd thing I noticed though. Of the 6 stylists working 5 of them were bleach blond/frosted on the top of the hair but the under part of their hair was dark, like their natural color I suppose. Not just streaks but all over the top layer. And 3 of the 5 customers were getting the same look done. Just me and an old lady were keeping our natural color. :) Is that the new look?

I've been going to David for years and he is awesome!

I think it's pretty standard for stylists to ask what you are using on your hair. I know at some salons it's required that each stylist sell so much product each month. I used to use regular store shampoos, but then I started using the Redken products in my hair and the difference is amazing! I buy the huge bottles on sale days and they last FOREVER! :)

the best hairdressers i have EVER run into have had a penis. i'll never forget the way gabe used to wash my hair...

I always get my hair cut on the spur of the moment so I never have the same hairdresser. I don't think any of them have ever asked me if I color my own hair or what shampoo I use. I've gotten compliments on my hair though, so whatever I use, I guess it's doing it's job. LOL

Seriously, I only use guy hair dressers. I've been using Brad for 5-6 years now, and I'm never disappointed with my hair. Even Aidan, my nearly 3 year old, gets her hair done by a guy.

ETA: the salon Aidan and I go to is over half guys, and the guys own it. There are only 2-3 girls there.
