We're bailing out AIG AGAIN?? SERIOUSLY??

Seriously??????????

When did America become a socialist nation?

{ETA: I don't really know what I'mm talking about, but it sounds right, eh?}

The price for the complete devastation of our economy (as opposed to the downturn we are in now) would be much more than 30 billion. Consider it a bargain. I don't think it is right that these companies were allowed to get this bad, but please consider that the lead up to this happened during the 8 years that Bush was in office, not in the 2 months since Obama took office. He is just trying to get us out of this mess.

I'm with ya, Robin.. I just don't agree at all with a SECOND bailout. The first one, whatever.. but a second one should totally not be necessary. IMO.

At this point, a quick death would be more preferable to a long, slow, drawn out one.

And now I'm going to go slink off in a corner and tape my mouth shut :D

The thing that makes me crazy...is all the families living on the streets now...and we're giving these companies not one but two bailouts? What happens when they need more in 3 months? Yes, I am an idealist...but take some of this bailout money and get people into some homes for crying out loud.

LOL... me too, me too :)

Not me. I'll never tape my mouth shut. :p

American culture says, "I have to do what's best for me, no matter who it effects." (affects?)

And now everybody's suffering for it.

That's my opinion on how we got into this mess.

That, and big government sucks, but paved roads and public parks rock.

why the h.e.double.hockey.sticks.not?? apparently we have money to burn.

i'm sleeping until spring 2013. that or moving to outer friggin space.

"change is coming" my ass! That's all I say about that....

Really makes me think about not paying my taxes!!!! What's a few thousand to them when they can burn money like that!!!!????!!! :cursing:

Im really tired of everything being blamed on the previous administration...just as Obama is just ONE MAN so was Bush. Decisions made and things that happened are the responsibility of the entire government and this is a HUGE mistake!! If after the first bailout the company cannot get things right then maybe it should be sold off or allowed to fail. It may be hard to take but its better then investing more and more and more into something that seems to be inevitably failing anyhow. What is gonna happen when they need more money? If we invest more money into this (or any other company) then there should be a total reformat of the company and complete transparency so every penny spent has to be accounted for. No more private jets, no more luxury vacations and no more multi-million dollar salaries for those grinding the company into the ground....JMO but whatever what do I know right? Cannot wait until 1/20/13!!!!

Yeah, ridiculous seriously.

A lot of times, I feel like certain companies need to fail and move on. Really. Not that it's all their fault, but seriously. that's a lot of money!

If AIG fails, BANKS AND NATIONS around the world will be taken down with it. The scope of the damage that would occur would be catastrophic. It totally sucks, but we have no choice but to bail them out. It's not Bush's or Obama's fault...it's the greedy S.O.B.s at the banks and the incorrect assumption that the economy would continue to grow at double digit rates!

double ditto.

I'm tired of it all too peeps... actually- at this point, I'd rather just see it all collapse :p (lol sarcasm.. mostly). We can point fingers at our current and past leaders all we want.. but it boils down to the fact, that it's not either one of their faults. I was never a bush supporter, but he didn't say heeeeeeeey.. stupid companies, screw over the economy! and neither has obama. They're human.. and trying to figure this all out like the rest of us.

Penny's right. If AIG fails, the entire world economy will fall apart. Our downward spiral has already had an impact on the world economy, we simply can't allow them to fail. End of story.

Placing blame gets us nowhere. The situation is here and needs to be remedied, and the government is trying to do that. We just have to ride it out and have faith.

I'm pissed at AIG. Not Obama, not Bush. I'm an Obama supporter, but I think that AIG is a bunch of idiots. Period.

Oh definitely, I'm sorry, I didn't mean blaming the companies. I meant blaming the current or former administrations will get us nowhere.

The banks and companies that got us into this mess with their ridiculous policies and spending are for sure to blame. Although I suppose Bush is a little bit to blame for allowing the deregulation of such companies. Something to think about....

Well, I do agree that this isn't Obama's fault because the poor man inherited this when he won the presidency. I agree 100% with Penny!

i agree with whatever this chimpanzee says

LMAO...Fizz

You know, not every thread has to boil down to a war for or against Obama..unless we're all nonpartisan political analysts who know things the general public don't and who live and breathe this stuff, it's safe to say we're all just talking out our butts anyway. LMAO

Bush was a disappointment and I am certainly no fan of Obama's policies. So........ I think what we might have forgotten is that CONGRESS is in charge of this. The bills get written, they go to the senate and then to house of representatives. If there's any change in either place they have to go back through, yada yada, and both sides vote on it. The other way is executive orders done by the president- which really stink when they use that kind of power and don't let our representatives do the work. The money for AIG- is that part of one of these pathetic bills passed by congress or part of an executive order? Then we know who to point the finger at, but my guess is congress. I hope we're all calling, emailing, and writing our representatives to tell them how we feel about this and other issues. I sure have.
With politics it boils down to a simple equation. Follow the money. Then you find your answer.

haha, seriously Traci. I'm rather tired of the anti-Obama attitude in general. The thing about economics is there's never ONE reason why anything happens. The economy, government, the world, everything is all intertwined. It's part of the reason why there's no one simple solution for solving the crisis we're in. It wasn't the actions of one person that caused this mess, it was the actions of many many people, from the banks to the government, to the people who bought the loans. To blame any one person for the entire crisis is just ridiculous.

i want a thank you button.. so I don't have to quote and type ^_^..

but thank you.

I have not read the replies yet but I wanted to state my opinion real quick unbiased.

The devestation that would occur if AIG was not bailed out is more than the price of the bailout..when they back our banks and OUR money it would lead to a catastrophe.

I'm sure I'm kinda alone in my opinion but some of the downfall of these businesses failing and the problems of the economy have to be blamed on the people too. Too many people live way beyond their means and now when WE can't pay our mortgage, car loans, etc it in turn hurts the banks..etc I know when I first bought a home, I was approved for a loan for WAY more than I KNEW I could AFFORD. Luckily, I'm sane and knew that, but sometimes people see that big # and know they would give anything to live in something so luxurious, instead of living in reality and in the long run they are strapped and something has to give. It's stuff like that, that hurts these banks and businesses. Now we're hoarding our $$$ and not spending, so that is spiraling into the economy.
