ABC's "Life on Mars" won't return for a second season.

The network has decided not to renew the series starring Jason O'Mara as 2008 Detective Sam Tyler working as a cop in 1973 New York.

The series, from 20th TV and ABC Studios, will complete its 17-episode freshman series order with the season finale written as a series finale that will wrap the loose story ends, explain how Tyler got transported back in time and (maybe) bring him back to his own time.

"Mars" enjoyed strong support from ABC brass and was slotted in some of the network's premiere slots, Thursday 10 p.m. after "Grey's Anatomy" and Wednesday 10 p.m. after "Lost."

Still, the show, based on the British series of the same name, didn't click with viewers.

With its serialized nature, many considered "Life" to be better suited as a limited series the way it aired in the U.K.

In its current ABC incarnation, "Life" was created by Josh Applebaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg.

The series, filmed in New York, boasts one of the strongest acting ensembles on TV with O'Mara, Harvey Keitel, Michael Imperioli and Gretchen Mol.

DH has watched the show, but I never took the time to actually watch it to see if I liked it or not.

You know, I tried to get into that show b/c of the cast but after a few episodes stopped watching it because I just couldn't get into the him going back in time thing. I think it would have been a FANTASTIC show if they'd have just made it a straight-forward 70's era cop show and left out all that stuff about him going back in time. But don't you hate it when you get attached to a show and they pull the plug. I was really enjoying My Own Worst Enemy with Christian Slater on NBC and they pulled it months ago.

Well that sucks. I liked that show! I didn't like when they switched it with Private Practice, I liked it on after Grey's.

::sigh:: Another one bites the dust.

bummer chica!!!!!! that crap sucks. i'm pretty sure i'm losing a couple of mine too. why don't people watch the *good* shows? lol

I KNOW, by all means keep renewing the crap and don't give good shows a chance. I mean, they don't even seem to give shows a chance to build up a following before BAM let's cancel it..ugh. Life On Mars was actually my favorite new show this year, the cast was great, I thought the storyline was great. The time travel angle was interesting, but it was just part of the show it was a solid cop drama also....ugh...now I am mad again!! LOL

it's super annoying!! most of the shows i watch people give me  face. i guess the general public isn't as cool as us quirky peeps who like the different stuff. major bummer!!

ARRRGGGGHHH!!! A show I actually like, so of course they're going to cancel it.
