S/O Fed ex: Is this weird?

So this is sort of a spin-off of the mailman thread but while I was in the shower I heard a knock on our door. When I came downstairs I saw two papers from the Fed Ex person shoved in the door. Fine, we're expecting some stuff so I figured that was what it was about. The one paper says we need to sign for that package but the other paper says:

We left your package at:

and then Neighbor is checked with the address for our next door neighbor. Now we don't really know our neighbors THAT well, certainly not to the point where I'd feel comfortable burdening them with mail randomly delivered to them. And as far as I know, we've never authorized for anything like that to happen.

Am I wrong in thinking it's a bit weird? Has anyone else had this happen? I feel a bit strange going over there to ask if they did indeed get our mail delivered to them.

I think it's fairly normal. I know we get packages for the eye doctor next door every tuesday when they are closed.

I've begged FedEx and UPS to leave packages with my neighbor, Bessie. I've written letters, I've got a letter from Bessie and her husband John saying they'll accept packages for us...

FedUp won't do it.

Our delivery people do this randomly to us too...I don't really like it, but our neighbors are nice at least. :)

ours just leave the package in front of the door! IN the past I have had some that leave the box around the back of the house. That is confusing!! We know it came but where it is! But it is never consistent.

Well my DH just went over and picked it up. It's big enough that it would have been just fine to leave it by the door. That's what the USPS and UPS always do. I never knew "neighbor" was a legitimate option, how weird!

I've had that happen before but not often. Usually they just leave a note that we have to go pick it up or they will try to deliver again.

It's better than what they did to us! We came home to Fed Ex having left our package IN our house...on the kitchen table. I kid you not.

I never knew that I lived in a safe enough place to not lock my doors, but I had to keep fedex out..LOL

When we lives in apartment buildings & the neighbors were home Fed Ex would leave stuff with them or leave their stuff with us. Your neighbor can refuse to take it, which might be why you had 2 notes. They went & asked them to take the package after leaving you the first note & then came back and left the second one.

Now it's a game of hide & seek to them if we aren't home. Sometimes they leave it on the porch in plain sight. Sometimes the put it in the storage bench on the porch. Sometimes they put it in between the storm door & the front door (which is nailed shut because we use the french doors in the kitchen now, so we never ever think to look there). They've put things in the garbage can corral, one more box among other boxes to be thrown in the trash. They must have spoken with our mailman because last week they left the box on the front seat of my car.

We don't use our front door in the winter, one day I peeked out there and saw a note saying they had left my 8mb memory card under my welcome mat.

I've had flowers delivered to my neighbors several times (different places, not the same neighbor lol) but never packages.

WHOA Traci that is nuts! I would have been all over that one!

I have had Fed Ex leave stuff on my porch and leave a note that I had to go and pick up, very inconsistent. Never have had anything left with a neighbor.

Dang T that is scary-I would have flipped out.
We have a closed in front entry way and our packages always just get left right there...for my clumsy teenage boys to trip over, which is mildly annoying, but nothing near home invasion...

When I've filled out shipping forms at the FedEx office, I've been able to select 'leave outside', 'can leave with alternate (ie neighbor)', must sign, etc. So maybe the issue is with whoever is doing the shipping and what options they have selected.
