Nikon Girls . . .

come in here and talk to me about the different DSLRs. I'm looking at the different models they have at Costco and I'd like to hear from those of you that own Nikons and why you love the model you have and what you'd change. Also, from the camera pros, is the $1,000 price different worth if from the D40 to the D300 for a casual photo snapper like myself? I mean I'm not going pro or anything.

What I really want is the D90- it has great video features as well, but it's like $1200-$1500 depending on where you get it.

(I don't have a Nikon- but the D90 is my dream camera!!!)

If you're not going pro then a d40/d80/d90 is going to be plenty of camera for you.
I myself have a D80 that I bought last may before the D90 came out.

I have the D40 & I love it. It works fine with nearly all the auto-focus lenses out there but the 50mm, which just means you have to focus it manually. I prefer zooming the lens to moving myself around so I don't feel it's a loss personally.

check out www.kenrockwell.com for some great reviews of Nikons.

Ok..I have had two!

I had the D40x and outgrew it rather quickly. I hated the fact I couldn't use prime lenses in auto focus mode and the lens compatability was limited. If I were you I would get at least a D80 (which are hard to find since the D90 came out).

I upgraded to the D90 (even though I really wanted the D300) and I LOVE it!!! I have no complaints about it.

I recomment www.dpreview.com. You can do side by side comparisons on cameras. It really helped me. I also suggest going to a store and holding the different cameras...see what fits best in your hands. There was a huge difference between my D40x and my D90!!!

I got the D40 b/c Colleen sent me to Ken Rockwell's website and that was his suggestion. I didn't feel the need to spend $1200 on a camera to photograph DS. I did however, upgrade to the '600' flash b/c you have more control of the flash angle. And I am now saving my money for the 18-200mm lenses...which costs more than my D40... :p:thumbdown:

I     my D40 though. So happy.

I say the D90, it has the same sensor as the D300 and I love mine so far. You are not likely to outgrow it fast and it will take pretty much all lenses for Nikons. I'm no good at manual focusing fast so the manual focusing of primes (my 50mm) would drive me nuts!
