My husband and I stopped at a local place for lunch the other day and I saw on the menu they had fried pickles serves with ranch dipping sauce (I read the description and it said they are actually deep fried in a batter and served with ranch for dipping). Im betting there will be some who say this is delicious but I cannot imagine for the life of me why you would want to deep fry a pickle much less eating a warm pickle...yuck

Then Im on a recipe site and I see a recipe for deep fried bananas(banana fritters they called them). Im not to sure about this either although id probably try this one before the fried pickles LOL

Andrew loves fried pickles! I think they're ok, but I'd prefer a nice full sour from a good deli in NYC any day, lol!

LOL I think the texture/temperature would gross me out. I dont even like pickles on my burgers if they are warm.

I would try that in a heartbeat because it sounds de-LISH!! Of course, I love pickles and I'm a sucker for deep-fried, so it'd be win win for me.

LOL Id eat the pickles plain before frying them :-) Do you use regular sliced pickles like you would put on a burger or get the whole pickles and slice them up yourself? The picture they showed in the menu showed them as being battered. I guess its kinda like anything fried though it just depends on the person. Im just wondering what possessed the person who created them first that frying a pickle would be good LOL

I've had them in slices & spears! Never the whole pickle though.

Spears seems the most logical choice to me.

Mmmm fried pickles are yummy! My sister ordered them once and she talked me in to trying one. I expected a soggy warm pickle, but they were actually kind of crisp! :) I like them.

OMG
Deep fried pickles are THE BEST
DH had to run out for them several times this last pregnancy.
I seriously can't get enough of them.

But...
this is a very very traditional Southern snack... this can't possibly be the first time some of you have ever heard of them?

I canNOT eat warm pickles. I've tried... I like the flavor but the warmness and the texture created from said warmness is just too much for my gag reflex. :D LOL

I tried them when I was in Memphis. They were ok, but I'm not really big on much of southern cooking. Too many fried foods for me. It is something I could do without ever eating again. I would say try them though...you never know. It could be a taste sensation for you!

I haven't tried them.

But there is a place in town that does deep fried green pepper rings with banana pepper and dusted with a little bit of powdered sugar. The first time I was like "no way, I'm eating that!" and then I tried it. SOOOOO yummy and I keep going back for more. LOL!

fried in some sort of batter then? I think I saw them at TGIFridays...I cant remember where I saw those at now.

The fried pickles were from Gators Dockside (http://www.gatorsdockside.com/). They have some yummy food there.

I used to love fried pickles. Then I had too many fried pickles and proceeded to have too many whiskey sours.

Fried pickles... not nearly as good coming back up.

How did this thread get to 3 pages before I got to pop in and say

YUUUUMMMMMMMM FRIED PICKLES!

My kids will definitely be introduced to that classic southern delicacy this weekend. :)

And, just for the record, I'm pretty sure that in the south you could deep fry poo and folks would be lining up for seconds, lol.

I've never had fried pickles before, but they sound SO yummy! Now I wan't to try some and I doubt anyone around here makes them! I've had the fried green beans and fried mac 'n cheese bites from TGI Friday's before though and they are both good too!

Have you ever had chicken on a stick? most places around here have it...it's like fried chicken (boneless)fried onions, fried pickles, and sometimes fried sliced potatoes all skewered on a stick together....yuuummm.

I've had a fried snickers bar. They battered it. I didn't think it was that great. A bit like a donut filled with a melted snickers bar. It was really rich but in a "this really is so bad for me it isn't even good" kind of way. :p

The fried twinkie was ok. I personally think there is no need to mess with a twinkie!

snickers are one of the few chocolate type candy bars that I like. Frying them kinda makes me gag a little. I do not eat twnkies but I do love zingers which are kinda like twinkies I guess. Im one of the weird ones who likes the raspberry/coconut ones though.

I thought they would be gross too but they were pretty good. Not something I'd eat all the time, I like my pickles cold and on my sandwich but they were definitely fun to try and different!
