I went to my daughter's honors ceremony today and took tons of pictures of her and her classmates. I told other moms that I would give them photos. I got home and all of the photos I took are MISSING! They are not on my memory card - none of them. I checked the external memory on the camera and they are not there either. I have NO CLUE what happened. All of the photos that were previously on the card were there and I took some test photos after I got home and realized what happened and they are fine - just all of the photos I took at the ceremony are missing. My camera seemed to be working fine when I was taking the photos and I even turned it off and on a few times during the ceremony - I probably took about 60 photos total. My memory card is less than half full so that wasn't a problem. I've checked everything I could think of and nothing. I am just so sad that I want to cry!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried Card Recovery software on both the card and camera's internal memory and NOTHING. Where the heck are the photos? And I know I'm not crazy - everytime I took a photo the preview came up in the screen after I took them!

You may want to try "PhotoRescue" and see if it can recover them. You can download the trial version and see if it finds them before you pay the money for the program. It's saved me a few times! :)

I was just going to suggest that also. I have tried that program (or a similar one because I cant remember the name of it) and it recovered alot of my photos. You may want to try "PhotoRescue" and see if it can recover them. You can download the trial version and see if it finds them before you pay the money for the program. It's saved me a few times! :)

That happened to a friend of mine, but found out her's was a bad memory card, which doesn't seem to be the case for you since there are still some on it, and you can still use it. How awful!! I still wouldn't use that card again though, and hopefully that recover program will work for you!

That happened to my Stepmom with some of the photos from their Alaska vacation and our family reunion last summer. Something happened when she was transferring the photos from her camera to their computer and a bunch of photos just disappeared! We used CardRecovery (http://www.cardrecovery.com/) software and recovered every single one of her photos from her 8gb CF card!! It was free to download the program and try it out, but you do have to pay $39.95 for it, but only if it can recover your missing photos. She said it was money well spent.

I know this sounds really stupid but it worked on mine once, take the card out of the camera, slide the lock thing down and then back up and then see what it says is on the card. (((hugs))) hope you find something that works. Hugs Crystal xx

This has happened to me before too! I have a fairly new Rebel and it's happened twice. I think it was my memory card though so I stopped using that one and...knock on wood... it hasn't happened again.

I'm sorry you lost all those priceless photos.

can i ask what sort of camera u were using? i've had an XD card 'go bad' before - the images were still there in thumbnail form though, but would not 'open' properly and there was no salvaging them - that was on an old canon point and shoot camera

I've had good results with a card that went bad and photo-saver. Here's another idea, I noticed recently on my camera you can create additional folders and the camera will only "see" the photos that are in the current folder. It's not hard to do, my almost two year old created one on accident. Do you have internal memory it could have been recorded to?

I did check for additional folders or files because my old camera used to do that too (and there weren't any).

I also checked the internal memory and even scanned it (in addition to the card) with a recovery program.

I have an Olympus SP-510UZ camera (nothing fancy but always been reliable).

I just keep going over in my mind what in the heck happened. The camera and memory card has worked fine after the fact - when I took the photos I saw the display settings because they come up when you take a photo and also the preview photo came up on the screen each time I took a photo. Now I know that they just didn't save - and I have no idea why that happened. It seems that if the memory card wasn't working that the internal memory would have saved them but maybe the internal memory is "shut off" when a card is installed? I'm just still so sad and tried for hours yesterday...I'm usually pretty good at figuring technical stuff out but this has me stumped - I'm pretty convinced that they are gone forever.

P/S - You guys are so sweet! I knew you all would totally understand the horror of this!

Wow you have me really concerned about this. I wonder if you could call the manufacturer of the camera and see if they have any suggestions??

You said you did view the card through your computer to check for additional folders...right?

Go to your camera's memory and see what the settings are for "saving"...is the internal memory shut off? If on as "default", try looking ON the camera for the internal pics (take your memory card out to help eliminate confusion)...and then using a 'wire' plug the camera into the computer and check that way as well...maybe just maybe??

{{hugs}} and hoping you can find them...maybe they are just hidden in some way. I know one time I wasn't able to find pics on the internal memory until I plugged the camera into the computer.

Good luck!
