When I add a layer style to an element it automatically "reveals the information" in my layer palette...making the layer palette very cluttered. I know I can click on the little arrow to hide it but is there anyway to change the default to keep it closed unless I click to reveal it.

I know in CS2 mine was always hidden and I had to click to reveal my layer styles.

Yes! I hated that, too. I don't have CS4 open right now, but I'll try to tell you from memory. Over in the upper right hand corner of your layers pallet, there is a little icon... It seems like it is like 3 little horizontal lines? If you right click on that, there is an option that allows you to edit your preferences. I think it says something like layer pallet properties or options. When that opens up, you can choose to hide all of that extra info.

Good grief what muddled instructions. If this doesn't make sense to you or you can't figure it out, just holler and I'll be glad to open CS4 and give you more exact instructions. LOL!

I have CS3 but I think it's probably the same. In the layers palette in the top right corner, there's a little arrow with some lines next to it. Click that and it will open up a menu - go to Palette Options way at the bottom of the list. In the Palette Options box there should be a check box for Expand New Effects - uncheck it and it should stop opening them all. I know because it drove me absolutely crazy when I switched to CS3.

Oh Thanks! I am off to try it now!!

Is there anyway to change the default to "float all in windows"? I know you can change it after everything is open but can you make it a default setting.

I really need to get to the store and buy a CS4 book but can't find the time to go and haven't found one that I really like yet!!

I did edit this in preferences, but it still comes up the way it does each time. Everyone I know has this problem with it, so if you find a permanent solutions...PLEASE come back and let us know!!!
