Am I the only one who was really offended by that rappers song last night?

I was literally SHOCKED at what he was singing...isn't this supposed to be family entertainment?

I'm really considering not watching it anymore this season...I know if I'd have had an older child watching it with me it would have really made me mad.
 
You were NOT the only one offended, Nikki. I was saying to Libby how shocked I was. I was really glad that we hadn't let Melanie stay up to watch anything - sometimes we do - but I was just really frustrated by the entire thing. Good grief. I'd have rather watched Frankie sing again, and I'm not a fan of his - but at least it was something I wouldn't be embarassed to have my child see.

This - THIS - is why I don't watch much television!

But yes, I hate that song, too. I think it was a little too PG-17 for the teenybops who watch that show every week and vote for Kris and Matt.

Maybe AI forgot that they are not on MTV?! :p

Be glad b/c it was disgusting...I was at my laptop and just listening and when I realized WHAT he was singing...blatantly singing about...I literally sat there in disbelief.
 
just fyi..it's not about oral if anybody thought that....(the round part is also a cover from dead or alive)

that said..was kinda distasteful for idol blah but I'll continue to watch

Yeah, singing about a stripper on AI isn't very family friendly...I wonder just how much backlash they got from it?

Just for the record, his name is Flo-Rida as in Flow Rider, as in he rides the flow of the beat...it has nothing to do with Florida except a play on the fact that he's from there I'm sure. LOL
 
Well, I personally couldn't understand anything he was saying except for "you spin me right round baby right round." I only 1/2 paid attention because I'm not much of a rap kinda girl.
 
Well, they may SAY it's not about oral but I bet you they recognize that you would assume that from the lyrics..."you spin my head round round when you go down?"!! and he repeated that over and over and over...really distasteful and so inappropriate for a show who gets probably half of their viewership from tweens and teens. Just the state of the world today though I suppose.

But, it still isn't very family friendly for primetime tv and teens/tweens.
 
I was shocked. Totally not suitable IMHO. But it is on later - so maybe that is why he was on? I did notice that they tried (cameras) VERY VERY hard not to get the girls in the shot. That is not an easy thing to do.

It is about strippers going around the pole.

Don't even get me started how these new artists can't come up with lyrics of their own. They had to take an 80s song I loved and ruin it!

Oh I wasn't disagreeing about what the song may really be about..I'm just saying that he has to obviously be using a play on words with those lyrics as well..b/c how can you not think it's about that if you didn't know kwim? I mean it's the first thing that came to my mind for sure.
 
I HATE that song!! My daughter listens to the stations that play mixtures of all kinds of music from pop to rap to rock to r-n-b and I heard that song on there and was thinking it was just nasty. I had not heard it was about strippers and the first thing that came to my mind is oral...my 17 y/o daughter even thought it was not a very good song.
 
When they have the guy AND the girl singing the same lyrics I think that is a pretty easy conclusion to come to so I defenitely agree Nikki

Well it's not a good song, it sucks, LOL! And it totally ruined that song for me too Steph!

But yea, I agree it shouldn't have been allowed. There are other top 10 artists out there with way less offensive lyrics they could have chose from, and I don't even like Idol, lol.
 
Honestly, I'm surprised that others are shocked at the lyrics of this song! There are at least 5 songs in the Billboard Top 20 that have lyrics that could be seen as inappropriate.
If You Seek Amy (BSpears), Poker Face (Lady Gaga), Dead and Gone (TI/Justin Timberlake), Love Sex Magic (Ciara/Justin Timberlake), I Love College (Asher Roth).
SO many songs out there who have a "dirty" theme or some "bad" lyrics that nobody really throws a fit about...or notices.
 
It is not so much that I am shocked about the lyrics. I knew the lyrics before last night. I am shocked that it was on AI at 7:00 at night. That is what I don't like.

was on at 9 here which I'm sure makes it "ok" not sure how they work diff time zones though...never thought about that

That's one reason they moved LOST a couple years ago from 8 to 9 b/c of the content...

I've never heard any of them so I probably would be lol....that's why I mostly listen to stuff from back in the day ...Journey's Greatest Hits plays over and over on my playlist lol :)

And yeah..it totally ruined that 80's song for me too.
 
Yea, I think the same thing would've been brought up if any of those other songs had been performed too.
