OK, I'm finally setting up a cell phone contract (we've been just doing prepaid because we never know how long we'll be in one place) because I want Jaime to be able to get ahold of me at any time... even online. So, I'm getting a plan/phone that will allow me internet access. I have no idea what kind of phone to get. I have my choice between 3...

iPhone
Blackberry
Reg. phone that does everything (can't remember which it is)

Who has experience with these and which do you think I should get?

Oh, and they all cost only $1 so price isn't an issue. lol

TIA for your help!

I say go for a Blackberry (I've been wanting one :D) Though I'm probably saying that because I already have an iPhone. iPhone does a lot of cool stuff that Blackberry can't do (e.g. applications. I love me my crossword puzzle app :))

I have a Pantech either a Duo or a Matrix, can't remember which. No additional fees to use it & you can surf the web, chat, do email, text, facebook, twitter etc.

Mostly I chose it for asthetic reasons. It felt the most like a phone in my hand, was the right length, not too wide. I can't talk on a Blackberry. It just feels wrong

I'd get the Iphone if I had AT&T but since I have verizon I'm getting a blackberry. I'd much rather the Iphone but I'm not changing carriers anytime soon.

iPhone :) I wish I'd waited and gotten one instead of my phone..hopefully this summer we can swing another iphone (Dh has one) and pass my phone down to my dd

I've heard the charge on the iphone doesn't last very long. At least that's what a few friends told me. DH just got the blackberry curve and loves it! The charge is really great!

I'd heard the same thing about the battery staying charged on the iphone, but I haven't found tha to be true. I only have to charge it every couple of days (and I leave it on all the time). The only time I have to charge it more often than that is if I'm using the 'net or playing games a lot. But if I"m just talking or texting, it lasts a long time. And when I DO charge it, it can go from being down to nothing to fully charged in a very short time... like an hour or less usually.

My DH works for AT&T so I say the iPhone!! LOL

No really, we just got iPhones a few months ago and I LOVE mine!!! It is awesome. There is some new software coming out this summer that will make typing a lot easier....a bigger keyboard!! The GPS system is great and will be even better this summer too....they will finally have turn by turn directions so you don't have to manually hit the button for the next turn! It is great being able to check my mail, the forums and surf the net for anything while I am away! The applications are great too...the Chase one saved us big time when my DH left his debit card at the ATM machine...he was able to call within minutes of realizing it and before someone got ahold of it.

I currently have a 2 year old red Blackberry Pearl, that I am hopeflessly in love with.
But. I REALLY want an iphone.
Jordan wants me to get a new Blackberry (my contract is up and I can upgrade) cuz AT&T is running the buy 1 get 1 with BB, and then he would get a BB too (he's on my plan). Problem being that he wants the clamshell BB which only T-Mobile currently carries.

Dilemma central.

You pretty much can't go wrong with either an iphone or a blackberry.

It depends on what you want to use it for. I have a BB because it allows me to have multiple e-mail addresses come to the phone(work/personal/other work/etc). I am on my 4th one since they came out. It has been a bvery handy, dependable tool.

I still really want an iPhone for the graphics, scroll through my pics, watch movies/tv episodes... If you want to surf the web, then I would look at that in the store. If you don't get one of the new models of BB, the surfing is not that great, imo. Oh, and if you already carry your iPod withyou, having a one-shop-gadget is a plus.

Also, check out how you like the way 'writing' feels to you. My friend loves her iPhone, but said that it took a long time to get used to the delay in the characters to come up when writing withthe touchpad. She never knew if she was making a mistake until too late and scrolling back was a pain.

Sorry for the rambling response!!! In a nutshell, if I did not need the multiple e-mail address capabilities, I would get an iPhone! :p

Oh, watch the monthly fees with either phone! Neither one is cheap!

I have the new Blackberry flip (smart phone?) - I don't remember what it's called - but I really like it!

But given the opportunity, I would've loved to try an iPhone too!

Just wanted to point out that you can do this with the iphone, too. :) I've got 2 different email accts synced to mine.

I totally love my iPhone!!!!! Just downloaded the best app for it that lets you crop and adjust photos you take or have uploaded. Totally cool !!! I have that, plus a bunch more stuff!!! It's so easy to use too! and the best part it's really easy to recharge it--either with the AC adapter or a USB plug to your computer. Like Libby mentions the battery charge lenght depends a lot on what you're using it for

Are these changes going to be updates for the iPhone 3G? I really want the better GPS upgrade!

I am happy with my BB curve. There's no way I'd change carriers to get an IPhone, lol. I don't need all the gadgets you can get on an IPhone. As for graphics, i installed the mini opera app so I can get them. Granted it is a very cool looking tool, I just don't need all that stuff :P All those apps and dls add up to money I'd prefer to save, or at least try and save, lol.
I'm sure you'll love whatever you choose.

First let me say:
I bought my phone 100% because it was red. Not because I NEEDED a smart phone (but I like it!). Not because I did my research (because I didn't). Not because it was the fastest-bestest-coolest-mostest coveted thing ever... because it was red.

That being said - lol

I have a blackberry pearl (also almost 2 years old now) - it's a very love/hate relationship. When it's working it's fantastic (I'm having issues with my memory card being read and the trackball sensor)!! BB just came out with AppWorld - and most of the apps are available to BB users as well. Check out the BB Storm for the touch screen version.

If you're looking for something like the BB Curve - my DH has the MotoQ and is head over heels in love with it. and it's a Windows OS - no getting used to a new os.

I would rec. a BB.

I have a Palm Treo...but I can't view the store products...so make sure whatever you choose...you can check out the shop on it!! lol

LOL Jill! I *big puffy heart* my red phone, so I totally know what you mean :)
2 years ago when I went to buy a phone, I knew I didn't want a clamshell (I HATE flipping those things open) and the only non-clamshells were the Blackberry and another POS one. I was like yea, but I'm not important enough for a Blackberry! The guy was like who says you have to be important?!

Now? I can not imagine living in a world where I cannot access my email from ANYWHERE. I'm mildly OCD about my inbox. I HATE unread messages.

We'll probably go check out phones sometime in the next few weeks. I like how slim the Pearl is. I can stick it in my little wristlets with no problem, it's perfect. But the graphics on it aren't that great. I'll have to look into that BB Appworld. Wise for BB to come out with that too. Howard Stern just spent weeks researching phones and had private showings with the Palm people to see their new one. He ended up with a Blackberry (the bold I think?) over the iphone.

Sounds like the red Blackberry Pearl is a popular phone. ;) That's what I have too - but I've just had mine for about a year. I love, love, love it! The only thing I'd do differently now is go with the Curve for the bigger screen and keyboard. I rarely texted before I got my BB so that wasn't important to me then, but now I can definitely see the benefits. :)

Oh and dh has a MotoQ for work and I think it's a huge PITA. But I'm used to my BB so that is probably part of the problem. lol

Good luck with whatever you choose! I love phone shopping! :)

Thank you guys so much for all the suggestions!!!

I decided on the iPhone and, so far, I'm loving it. I found a few really cool apps that will help me stay more organized (if I use them lol). I even found a food log app... very cool concidering I was carying a notebook around with me everywhere. AND, I found a Grocery List app... you don't know how many time's I've gone to the store and forgotten stuff cuz I never have a list with me. lol

Anyway, I'm really excited... the only downfall... I didn't get to pick my color. sniff... They were running a special and the $1 phones were black only. BUT, the 1st 2 months of the contract are free and the set up fee was waived with the special too.. SCORE!

Yay! I'm so excited for you! I think you'll love it! And I dont' even want to TELL you what I paid for mine (or my monthly contract price. LOL!)

If it eases your mind... the iphone only comes in black or white, and the white (as far as I know) is only in 16GB. So most people have black. :)

Thanks for that Libby! Makes me feel better... I guess I've just seen colored covers or something then.

It's funny, with all that it does, I can already think of a couple things I wish it did. For example.. I'd love to have Yahoo IM running in the background in case DH tried to chat. Unless I'm missing something, right now you have to leave it up to stay logged in and then you can't use the other apps at all. See, never happy. ROFL

Well I'll tell ya... what I do in that case for Yahoo... My friends that I chat with regularly just send me an SMS message through Yahoo (they have to plug in your cell #), and it comes to my regular phone screen just like a text. Then when I want to reply, I just send a text back, and it goes to their computer screen. :)

ETA: When you do this, you don't have to be logged in or have it running in the background or anything.
