Any Pharmacists online?

I'm no pharmacist but I've battled thyroid issues my entire adult life..I personally woudln't take them together. I have taken both and the one time I took them together I had crazy anxiety and my heart was racing. I'd try to take my synthroid (well I take unithroid now..) in the morning and cytomel later. I would just take your dose of cytomel (which is stronger than synthroid) and continue your regular doseage tomorrow.

Heather might have better advice if she's around...that's just my personal experience

The doctor wants me to take the Cytomel twice a day, with one of them being at 2 pm. He said to take the other in the AM. I currently take the Synthyroid at 5:30 am. I guess I could take the Cytomel at 7? Dammit, why didn't I think of this when I was sitting there.

He's giving me the Cytomel partly because I'm EXHAUSTED.....like I sit for a minute and I fall asleep instantly, kind of exhausted.
 
well they work differently too..Synthroid is T4 and Cytomel is T3

did the dr decrease your synthroid when he added the cytomel?

totally diff topic but are you on an antidepressant as well? It's ok if you don't wanna answer, I know that's kinda private but just curious. IMO it goes hand and hand with the meds.
 
Nope, no anti-depressant.

I'm actually pretty emotionally stable when my meds are working right!!! LOL

I have been on the Synthroid since Sept. The cytomel is new starting tomorrow.
 
GL on it...on the plus side if you are trying to lose weight..Cytomel helps lol

What's unithroid? I'm on synthroid. Is this a better option?
 
Samara - you ever been tested for sleep apnea? could be why you can fall asleep so quickly when you sit for a minute or two - not getting true rest at night that your body needs.

do you snore? LOL...
 
Nope, no sleep apnea. My fatigue is related to my thyroid. Again, when my meds are right all is good with the world. I seriously can blame ALL my crap on my thryroid!

The problem for me is that my meds will never be perfect. I have Hashimoto's disease which means that my thyroid gland is slowly dieing due to my immune system attacking my thyriod gland. I see a specialist, an endocrinologist, that monitors my blood work ever 6 weeks. And since he's changing my meds slightly, I have another appt in 4 weeks.

up to your dr..I know my dr didn't want me taking generic levothyroxine (like levothroid or levoxyl) just b/c they weren't approved to be the same or SUPPOSEDLY as potent. My insurance though gave me a fit about taking brand synthroid so after a couple years my dr changed me to this (once it was FDA approved I guess) and I've had fabulous results with it.
