Placenta previa

At my ultra sound 2 weeks ago the tech diagnosed me with this, they think (thought) it's complete but when my OB listens to it with the Doppler he thinks it might only be a partial/low laying/marginal previa.

Of course he said the "C" word and I freaked.....I hate labor/birth and pain and I always thought I'd be "relieved" to hear I would not have to do it but I'll tell you what....I'm not relieved!!

He'll schedule another ultrasound for 30 weeks to check on it but until then I'm on pelvic rest (DH took that real well *end sarcasm*), no exercising and no heavy lifting. He also advised me to be extra careful this next two weeks because we are leaving for the beach on the 2nd and if there is any hint of bleeding he is 86ing that
trip!! :glare:

So who here has experienced this!?! Any one with an encouraging story!?! I could use one right now!!! :crying:

I THOUGHT Lena had it (more than once?) Not positive though but I wanna say it was her

(((Hugs))) Sending some healthy pregnancy vibes your way

no..maybe it was Bryn?

I remember somebody that posts regularly that was recently (recent being w/in the last 2 years lol) pregnant that had it lol

How far along are you? When I was 18 weeks my doctor said that my placenta was very close to my cervix (not covering it but really close). She said that most of the time the placenta will move up on its own with the growth of the uterus. She scheduled another sono at 28 weeks and it had moved up so I don't have to have a c-section. Hopefully, yours will move up as well.

When I was reading about all of this on the web, I found an article saying that the top of uterus grows first and then the bottom grows the second half of the pregnancy, so that is why doctors schedule another sono several weeks later to see if the placenta moves up with the growing uterus.

I hope this helps! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the placenta moves. I was borderline for previa at my 20 week ultrasound, but by my 28 week u/s it had moved way up and is well within the safe zone now.

Hopefully the same will happen for you!!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that!

I haven't had placenta previa, but I've been thru pre-eclampsia (not this pregnancy) which is so much worse, and while its scary, take comfort in knowing that the medical advances are incredible and that the doctors will take care of you!

I had a c-section with my first pregnancy (emergency) and it's not really that bad, as long as you remember to take it easy for a couple of weeks afterward. I'm also going in for another one in just 5 short weeks, so I'm preparing myself (at least this time I know in advance!)

You will be sore from the c-section- the worst of it is when they check your incision and uterus (to make sure it's contracting) because they push on it pretty hard. It does hurt to sit up and lay back, but if you keep your hospital bed inclined and not flat, it's much easier. Also, take an extra pillow to the hospital with you that you can hold over your belly, putting a little pressure on it when you laugh, sneeze, hold baby, etc. it's really not so bad. Also, make sure you keep your pillow handy for any car rides (the bumps can hurt otherwise!)

The pain was pretty much gone 3 days later- I didn't even fill my pain med. prescription when I was released from the hospital because it wasn't so bad- ibuprofen/tylenol helped enough. I would, however, recommend sleeping/sitting on one of those bed pad thingies because you can't really feel your bladder's signals for about a week after- everything feels kinda numb.

Well, I wish you the best luck, and hopefully as your uterus grows, the placenta moves up higher (as it does in many cases).

Oh no! I don't know much about it, but I do know that it can correct itself over the course of the pregnancy. (((HUGS!)))

i had it on both pregnancy, but my doctor said not to worry because most cases the placenta will move up on its own. and it did in my case both times. he told me to refrain from having sex though :D

just take it easy and don't worry too much! :)

Well, I did have it, and more than once, but it was the early kind, that resolved itself quickly. It did cause spotting for me, but my spotting with Parker was a ruptured capillary or something like that. I think who you are thinking of *may* be Bryn. Both times I had it, my placenta moved up where it belonged with no other issues :)

Good luck!!

How far along are you? That makes a big difference. I was told at my 20 week ultrasound that I also had it, but even the tech said not to worry because MOST of the time it will move on its own and all is well (and it did)! I wasn't even told to take it easy or anything... and I wasn't too worried about it because they said it would likely resolve itself. Hope it moves for ya!!!! ((hugs))

I'm just over 22 weeks so I do have quite a long ways to go (*UGH* :D), And you know the tech didn't even metion it and maybe that's why is because it does often correct it's self. My OB is very confident that it will be "fine" or at least he kept telling me that over and over. I hope it's because he believes it and that it just wasn't him trying to make me not worry!!! :D

It was me. =(
It didn't end well... I managed to carry him for 36 weeks before they decided to give me a c-section since I had been admitted to the hospital 4 times for bleeding. =(

It can move... mind didn't, pm me if you have any questions. (they gave me steroids shots and he was perfectly healthy when he was born, didn't need oxygen at all and was only on an IV for about 30 hours, he went home a week after he was born)

Hi
I am at work and can't write much right now. I had complete placenta previa with DS2.

The placenta 'migrates' as the baby grows and your uterus stretches--the placenta tends to move upwards--a very good thing! This is why a lot of people with PP mid term are in the safe zone by delivery time.

Like Bryn, mine did not move. DS was 6 weeks+1day early. He was fine and was only in NICU for a week too. Call the Dr for any spotting.

I have it, Pg Buddy.

They also diagnosed me with it at my 20 week u/s. Mine, however, is not complete; there is/was just a 'little' in the danger zone. I'm getting another u/s June 4th to check on it.

Neither one of my doctors (I've switched in the last month) told me I had to take it easy, no s*x, or anything like that, though, thank goodness.

I will pray that it gets resolved ASAP with no bleeding. Hopefully, we will be Placenta Way Up Where It Should Be Buddies soon, too!

I just wanted to chime in I have never had a placenta prevea baby but my neighbor did when I lived in SLC. it was her 5th baby and she was pretty upset by the fact that she had to have a c-section on her last baby when all her others had been natural. However like the other posters have said it is possible for it to move up and out of the way. Take it as easy as you can and hope for the best you might just get lucky. BIG HUGS! Take care

my sister had it and it corrected itself. My BFF had it and ended up in the hospital after soem really bad bleeding. They put her on steroids and I think she made it to 34 weeks in the hospital? Im not sure how far she was exactly but it was still at least a month before her due date. As for the c-section it really is a piece of cake IMO compared to labor. I was in labor with my second for like 18 hours and never dialated so they decided to do a c-section. Super easy recovery. My first was an emergency c-section and it was pretty easy. My third was also an emergency c-section because I had blood pressure which was dangerously high towards the end. My son was born 6 weeks early. All three were c-sections though and after going through labor with my middle child and then having a c-section I can say without a doubt it was easier to have the c-section.
