some of you may disagree..

lauren grier

you're like stars
but you are wrong..

riding a motorcycle is one of the most awesomest things in the world.... mebbe only second to sex :p

after my dad & I fixed my car today he took me out for a ride.. I just love bikes.. he was all mebbe one day you can get yourself one.. I would die happy if I could LOL. My brother has one too.. Just <3 bikes around here. That is all.
If you've never ridden on a motorcycle. .go.. now. .find osmeone.. and ask for a ride LOL

*sigh* yes, it's a trip.

i could totally see you on a bike, la. :)

but....i would die to see my girls riding the way i rode in hs/college. ;) it would freak me out to see them on a bike.

bikes are cool but defenitely not for me. Florida drivers have to be among the worst in the entire WORLD!! And I have really bad anxiety in alot of the areas we have to drive while in a car I cant imagine how Id be on a motorcycle

Once a loved one almost loses their life because of a motorcycle accident, you don't look at them the same way. Sorry La, don't like 'em.

Ditto I loved riding them growing up and I remember riding behind my brother when I was in high school and it was the best feeling in the world but since my brother was killed last year on his.......the thought of them makes me ill. Literally my tummy is in knots and aching! :crying:

*sigh* Yes, I miss riding. Jeff had a motorcycle when we met up until I got pregnant with Cameron. I used to LOVE riding with him. Such a thrill.

We sold the bike when I was pregnant and I'm hesitant to get another one now that we have kids. I'd like to, but I don't know if its very responsible of us.

P.S. Jeff was in a bad accident right before we met. A drunk driver pulled out in front of him and he put his bike down going 70mph. Lots of road rash, a tire spoke through his foot, and some fiberglass fragments in his shoulder. Otherwise, just fine. No head injury which is amazing considering he wasn't wearing a helmet (dumbass).

My dad is a fireman and during one of his shifts last week there was a bad accident. A car pulled out in front of a motorcycle and the guy on the motorcycle went underneath the car. By the time my dad got there, the man was screaming for him to put him out. He thought he was on fire, when in deed he had road rash really bad. It's a million wonders the man is alive.

OMGawd that is horrible!! Almost had me crying in pain thinking about it.

My mom and fiance have a Harley and they love it. I haven't been on a bike in years, but I agree with the others, that it isn't as much them driving, as it is the other drivers that don't watch for the bikers.

I really sympathize with you guys who have had horrid experiences with bikes.. I too have had people close to me seriously injured in biking accidents... This is just something really special to share with my dad... If anything I have more respect for the dangers of motorcycles/dirt bikes etc because of past experiences

Bikers can be just as bad as people in cars though...I think it should be a mutual thing of watching out for each other (cars and bikes that is). I cannot tell you the amount of times I have seen a bike come up through traffic in between cars or on the shoulder of the road or have a whole pack of like twenty bikers pull out in traffic in front of a car. A bike is one vehicle and each vehicle is supposed to stop at the stop sign before pulling out. Alot of times they act though like because they are all in one group they should all be able to pull out at once onto a roadway.

Loooooove my motorcycle!! I haven't ridden in a couple years though. I did my tailbone in skating and omg it screwed me up. Driving my truck that's like driving a couch hurt like hell, and if you've ever ridden a motorcycle, you'll know how much the tailbone area is a factor so there was no freakin' way. Since the tailbone incident, other life factors have conspired against me and my bike getting out on the road again, and I'm seriously considering selling it this year. :(

As for safety, other drivers, etc, yes, all issues. However, learning to ride a motorcycle properly will make you a MUCH better driver in general, and awareness is everything on a bike. I can't say enough about taking a thorough riding course. Even people who think they know how to ride, if you've never taken a good course, take it. Knowing how to operate the bike is not enough, and even people who've ridden for years have simply taught themselves a ton of bad habits. A rider that thinks they have nothing to learn is a dangerous rider.

Once someone you know is injured or killed, it can be really hard to get that out of your head. The fact a family friend's fiance was killed 3 weeks before their wedding is one of the things that's made it tough to get back on my bike. It happened while my tailbone was screwed up, and I think if I could've gotten back to riding right after it had happened it would have been easier, but having time to dwell on these things is never good. I'm still debating. I miss riding so much, but could use the money for so many things I need much more.

I hear ya La...when I was little my dad had a street bike and it was always the best day when he came to pick us up from school on the bike (not to mention it made the little elementary school boys jealous). We also had dirt bikes most of my life so I still miss the thrill of the ride.

here's a LO I did about it a while back...

i agree; motorcycles are fun and i'm sad we won't be able to keep the one we were getting from my BIL. i had SO much fun whan DH gave me a ride the other day! we will someday get one. and i do worry about other drivers. DH is a very good driver, even though he's only been riding for a few months. they are scary too though. we wear helmets no matter how dumb we might look!

my uncle used to take us for rides on his and I absolutely LOVED it!!! it was such a thrill!!

But, they do scare me half to death. We only rode them out in the country on a road no one was on unless they lived on it!

Oh yes, I love motorcycles.:wub::wub:

My dad has an amazing 100 year anniversary Harley Fat Boy that just sits forlornly in his heated garage with barely 300 miles on it. It makes me cry just to think abt it. He's taken me out on it a handful of times, but hasn't ridden it at all in the last two years. I guess he's finally going to sell it, and I only wish that Jeff and I had the money to buy it.

Of course, I can't do any motorcycling this summer because of the baby, but next summer... watch out!

I can't get over the feeling of being one with the bike and as scary as it is to know there is nothing between you and the road, it's so exhilarating, too. It must be the same reason why people ride rollercoasters.

La is right on when she says it's like s*x; it definitely gets my motor going! Ha ha ha.

I love, love, LOVE riding on the back of a bike. My Dad had one when I was younger, my Mom's ex-boyfriend had one for the better part of my growing up years, and my Mom even had one. And then I dated a few guys that rode too. Nothing beats the feeling of riding.
Des is looking into getting a bike himself in the future, when we get a bit of extra money.

Joan, my mom has always had tailbone issues, from skating too, and from an injury when she was young. She has a really bad time when they go on long rides.

hahah Lauren I just did a page about riding a motorcycle for the first time! They are awesome aren't they!!! Hubby says I can't have one cuz he doesn't want me to orphan our children. Boo :(

Tailbone injuries are such a PITA! (pun intended, lol) They take forever to heal, and even when you think they've healed, you'll suddenly get that weird twinge out of nowhere. I think I'm finally completely healed. *knocks on wood*

I don't like cruiser bikes myself, which doesn't help matters. No cushy seats for me. I'm much more into that dual-purpose/supermoto style where you really use your body a lot in the control of the bike. I get the attraction of the cruiser style and completely understand why people love it, it's just never appealed to me. They tried to throw me on a cruiser style bike for the street portion of our course and I could not have felt more awkward. I begged them to switch and, thankfully, they accommodated.

I can not imagine riding with a broken butt ^_^ .. my dads suspension bottomed out when we hit a big ole bump... I thought my butt was going to fall off.. I bounced so freakin hard my teeth clattered.

yes, motorcycles. i WUB them. i've almost bought a BMW G-650 GS like 5 times.
Doood, those are hawt! Mine's an F650CS. They look a little weird, and not as badass as the GS, but talk about a freakin' blast to ride in the city!
