I want to take a minute to thank our servicemen and women and think of our fallen heroes and their surviving family. To the sweet people like Angie (do you get Memorial Day off over there girlie?), Vanessa, Mari, all of those who serve our country, thank you. And all of those DH's too!
I lost an uncle (whom I've obviously never met) in Vietnam but I've been very blessed to not know the sadness of losing a loved one to war. Every day, but especially today, I feel so blessed for my freedom.

I agree!! My nephew was over in Afghanistan and is now in Italy. He has a brand new baby (well not so brand new now she is 8 months old now) and most of that time was spent away from her. My dad was in the military up until I was born. My stepdad spent time in Vietnam. My grandparents on both sides fought in WWII and my great grandpa was in WWI. So I defenitely appreciate all they do!!
Thank you all so much for the dedication to our armed forces and for the sacrifices you make everyday for every single person in the country!!

I'm so glad that you started this thread Lena. It's nice to be part of a community where days like this are seen as something more than an opportunity to get a day off of work and enjoy sales.
My husband is a Vietnam veteran...he was a crew chief on a helicopter and was in two crashes, but was blessed to come home injury-free. He didn't get a very welcome reception when he came back home.
It seems as though things have improved on that front (well, I hope that they have), and that no matter what one's feelings on any military action are, that we honor and support those who are doing the jobs they are given and who risk all for our freedom and safety. May God bless and protect each and every one of them.

I'm in Canada, so today is not a holiday for our Veterans, but I get the day off as I work for an American company.
We are not a very military minded family, my grandfather fought in WWII and landed on the shores during D Day. Also, my cousin is just back from Afghanistan a few months ago (he's been over twice) and my other cousin is married to a Marine and they live in NY. He is deployed to Iraq now, for the third time.
Thank you to all soldiers, here and in the US for keeping us safe and free!

I totally agree Lena! My cousin Jason is in Iraq for the third time and I have been so worried about him!
I am also thankful for the fallen soldiers in my family who died to protect our freedoms. They will never be forgotten and will always be remembered.

I am so lucky to say that my husband spent a year in Iraq and came home safely. Hopefully he will never have to go back.
I am so thankful for all those who have served and are serving, and I will always rememeber those who never came home.

I got an email this morning, from a West Point graduate that we sponsored who has been in Afghanistan for quite some time now. I love hearing from our boys overseas and getting their perspectives on the war on terror.
We live very close to West Point, so we have many boys (and 1 girl this year) that we sponsor through their years at the academy. My parents went to graduation on saturday and then a few bbq's afterwards to celebrate. We have been blessed to not lose a single graduate so far, and we don't take that for granted.
I am so thankful for the men and women who have served, and who are currently serving, to protect this wonderful country.
