Opinions Needed...

Alright, so...we want to do some fun stuff with the kids this summer. There's always a fair here in town in August, with a little rodeo and crash-up derby, so we'll take them to that...it's cheap (like $8 for the whole weekend or something, plus tickets to the rides - there's only like 8 rides total though, lol).

There are quite a few things to do in Edmonton, though - there's a zoo (although it's kinda lame), a space science center w/ IMAX...movies, too. A big fair by the same people that do the little one in town, but way bigger, lol...with a kids area and stuff - face painting etc.

But, I really want to take the kids to see Walking With Dinosaurs. We missed it 2 years ago because, funnily enough, we had just returned from our family vacation where we went to a big dinosaur area - with a big dino museum and stuff like that. BUT, it's coming back, and it's something that I'd REALLY like to take the kids to see. Problem is...it's expensive! Tickets for the 4 of us will cost $325 (including tax and the stupid "convenience" fee).

So, doing that will mean no other fun stuff all summer - maybe a movie.

What would you do? (poll coming)

Oh, yeah...meant to say that my SIL & BIL went last time it was here and they said it was amazing. BIL's sister and her son went (he was about 4 at the time) and he absolutely loved it!

Since the dinosaur thing isn't a standard thing (meaning it isn't always available to you) I would do that and then some small things.

I'm with Paula, since this isn't something that you can do just anytime I'd say go for it then do whatever cheaper things you can over the summer. Movies, small fair, day at the beach, etc.

I would totally NOT ever spend 325 for a one day event.... and then have nothing to do for the rest of the summer. They'll live without the (albeit super cool) dino thing.

I'm with La...I vote for all the little things...will give them something to look forawrd to every so often instead of 1 big event and then nothing else....

Unfortunatly, dh was laid off in Feb. He just got a new job, but there is no $ so we are home being **creative** with our house.

Gah...that is alot...but I look at it this way...we take a vacation every year and it's a lot of money (room and meals for 6 people :blink and yes it may last a week....but it's the only big thing we do. Once it over and done with......there is nothing left to look forward to for my kids.

I think going to see the dinosourse would be like your "vacation". As long as you "make the most of it", it would be fine. Then if you can get away with a few smaller cheaper things and lots of creative home stuff....I say GO FOR IT!!!!

1 week vs 90 minutes is totally different ^_^

As cool as it sounds, I think I'd do a lot of little things, rather than the dino thing. I know as an adult it would be great and you wouldn't be too bothered about having no other events, but I think kids prefer to have periodic little trips, so that they've something to look forward to once one event is over.

Honestly, whenever we spend a lot of money on those kids shows, we end up thinking it's not worth it. My kids have both cried through the Wiggles in concert and through Sesame Street Live (both too loud), thought the Disney Aladdin show at California Adventure was kinda boring, thought Disney on Ice was too cold, etc. etc. They aren't brats, either! I just think we tend to think of these shows as a bigger deal than they do. My kids are usually just as happy going to see a Disney movie than they are going to a fancy live show. I've seen ads for the Dinosaur thing, and it does look cool, but I'd still pick a bunch of other activities rather than just going to that.

I'd skip it and do alot of small things so they won't be bored the rest of the summer...

Wowww 325 dollars is alot of money for a one day thing that might last a few hours tops. We had a dinosaur exhibit here a couple times once at a mall (which was actually really cool and totally free) and once at a botanical garden and it was like 10 dollars a person. We didnt go to it but I would have had a hard time spending 50 dollars for all of us to do that. I say go for the smaller things. The kids would have a great time having a weekly or twice weekly event that doesnt cost much as they would one big event that is over before you know it

Oh and if you ever made it to FLorida there is a dinosaur theme park that is supposed to be pretty cool

I chose a lot of small activities-
the more stuffs you do, the more photos you can take! But really, the more memories, the fewer boring days... ya know

OMG! Walking with Dinosaurs is going on right now an hour away from us, but it wouldn't cost us that much to go see! Whew! The tickets are about $50 each here. I soooo wanted to bring my son to go see that, but I may go into labor anyday so it's probably not such a great idea!

I gotta figure out how to keep my 5 busy this summer too! I think a lot of smaller things is the best way to go to get ya through the whole summer. I am thinking swimming lessons, Kidz & Clay (pottery place) for my daughter. Not sure what else yet.

Yeah, it's $60 a ticket, then the $10 convenience fee (per ticket), there are 4 of us...then tax. It's crazy.
