Do not wait until your oldest child is almost 9 years old before you decide to go through and have a yard sale with all of your kids clothes. Seriously, I've hardly gotten rid of a thing since they were born, and I have tables upon tables of clothes set up in my basement.
I've been sorting, and folding clothes for 7 hours, and my feet feel like they're going to fall off.
I'm only about 1/2 ways done, and I have to go through all the toys, and clean them, etc.
I hope I make like $1000 bucks for all of this crappy work! :cursing:

LOL...I've been sorting and giving my kid's outgrown clothes to my sister (her kids are just younger than mine, so it works well) since they were tiny, but we're going to have a yard sale later this summer and I *still* have a quite a bit of clothes to go in there...

LOL, I think I want to go to your yard sale! I need to start hunting for size 6 clothes for my 3-1/2 yr old...she's gone from a 3T to a 6 in a year...where her height came from, I don't know.
I have a trunk full of her clothes to take to the charity shop tomorrow...I try to keep a box at the bottom of her closet to toss things into as she outgrows them. We've got one box for 'special' things I don't want to get rid of, and her coming home outfit is in a memory box and hanging on the wall of her room.

well...with 5, 3, and 1yr old girls (among other kids lol) we pass clothing down a lot in our house...so I rarely have clothes to give away. I normally ebay my gymbo sets and give the rest to friends at church or donate it.
I do not envy you going thru all of that clothes though lol

I ebayed a bit of it, but I am too lazy to do it regularly.
Amelia and Rae are very off season, even though they are only 22 months apart. I pass down what I can, but it's not often much. Amelia will outgrow her shorts in the spring, they'll be too big for Rae, but by the time the next year comes along, they are too small for Rae. It's pretty annoying! I even had to buy snowsuits for the same reason. I have snowsuits in every size from 0 to 6 because of this off season nonsense!

Yeah and Rae is super tiny, at 34 pounds...she's almost 5. Amelia was much taller at that age too.
It definitely does suck. I always have to buy three lots of clothes every season, since I don't have any kids around to hand down to me.

We had been holding onto everything to pass down, but we've just started getting rid of clothes that are too boyish for Lauren to wear. Luckily my kids' preschool has a huge consignment sale twice a year, so that motivates me to deal with it. Without that I'd end up with 15 years of clothes sitting in the basement while I said, "One day I'd love to have a yard sale..."

Omgosh! rae is little!! We just had a garage sale a couple weeks ago so I know about all the hard work you're talking about...and my girls aren't anywhere near the age of yours! Hope the sale goes well and more importantly, you get rid of your stuffs!

I am always getting rid of my kids stuff. There is just no storage in these houses in Washington! So I go through the toy box and closets every couple of months. I give all my daughters clothes to the neighbor up the street from me who's Daughter is the same age as mine but half the size. So it all works out. I would say No you don't have to clean the toys unless they are really Gross with whatever on them. GL with your sale can't wait to hear how well you make out on it!

oh the horror. duct tape your arms on. you need arms.
i go through my kiddies stuff every new season. i flop around the hand-me-downs, sell the sellables, donate the goods that i can to jenny and give away the rest. every 3-5 months when i do this i always have one garbage sized bag (at least). nuts!!!

I hope you can make tons of money! That is sooo much work. I hate garage sales because of the work, but sometimes you can make a decent amount!
