It's good for nausea too. I had so-called morning sickness 24/7 for 38 weeks...and ginger was the one thing that helped. Only in gingersnap form for whatever reason (and I don't generally like them). So you can imagine my dismay to pull out the last gingersnap from the box we had bought at Walmart, and find a HAIR THAT WENT IN ONE SIDE AND OUT THE OTHER.....EEWWWWW. That killed the ginger for me right there...couldn't look at it w/o getting nauseous.

They say ginger tea helps induce labor too. I was so far over with Stella that I drank a cup of that nasty stuff and went into labor the next day....maybe a coincidence or maybe ginger is just all around awesome! :D :D

ahhhhhhh then cooked inside something it helps? I thought maybe you meant you had "ginger pills" or something and it did something special. I don't even know if I have ginger in my spice cabinet or if I have EVER cooked with ginger. I don't care for chinese type food could that be why? ...other than gingersnap cookies...I can't think of anything that uses it.

In what? I'm totally clueless here. It's amazing what things I learn at SSD!

ginger spice is not the same taste wise as fresh ginger root. IT's really cheap, and should be in the produce section near all the loose lettuce and what not. You can grate it or dice it etc (after you peel it).
here's a piccie I'm sure you've seen it

if you do buy some.. you want one that is pretty straight/smooth (well as straight and smooth as ginger root can get).. with no offshoots and as few bumpy things as possible. in other words not one that looks like that piccie haha

I ate crystalized ginger all through my pregnancy to help with how icky I felt all day long 24/7. It helps.

I freeze mine and use a microplane to grate it into lots of recipes. For those sushi lovers out there, the reason that ginger comes with sushi is to soothe your stomach. Long ago (hopefully), it was used to prevent sickness when the fish wasn't as fresh as it should be, lol.

I have several bottles of ginger in caplet form. I never go anywhere without tucking a bottle in my bag. My kids get motion sickness and it really works for them.

It's amazing what I learn here at SSD....I've got super picky eaters here...so nothing in veggies...can you give me an idea of something to fix so we can see what it is like? Nothing oriental...that stuff usually DOES upset my stomach. You all have me really curious about that.
I'm guessing the fresh ginger is by the pound? Will they just let me break off a hunk and just pay for what I want (like we do bananas)??

I used it on my chicken (and veggies lol.. but you don't want to know about that).. I grated ginger, added fresh garlic, and teriyaki sauce- though there are a million other things you could add.. ce just likes teriyaki LOL.. and the ginger will calm your tum :]
and yes it's by the pound. The piece I bought cost me 15 cents LOL.. there should be various sizes .. just have to pick through it like the other veggies.
I have a recipe around here somewhere for a tea for sore throats and congestion. It's basically boiling up some fresh ginger for a bit, then squeezing a bunch of fresh lemon into it once you take it off the heat, plus some cayenne pepper and, I think, a couple other things get tossed in there. It's good stuff.

I mostly just use it on like teriyaki chicken. :) We LOVE chicken and rice around here! Everyone will eat it...even the pickies!

The closest I come to this kind of thing is... fried pork and rice...i use water and minute rice and soy sauce...americanized version I guess. ;-) Would ginger taste good with this...and how much...if grated...like a teaspoon to a wok pan or less? thanks
