Michael Jackson has died..

I do too Libby..I really do too. I'm really shocked and after Farrah and this, I'm just in a somber mood today.

OMG... wow... oh gosh, that's so sad... just wow. Whatever you think of the guy, he was an amazing artist, that is for sure.

Wow, I'm completely shocked too! I just got an alert from my local paper. I can't believe it! I might not have agreed with everything about MJ, but he was one of my first memories of music and I thought he was very talented. Very sad indeed. I hope that his kids will be well taken care of.

I can't even believe it! I had a Michael Jackson purse when I was a kid! We played Thriller so many times we wore it out. He went a bit wacko the past few years, but I would have never expected this. I'm sad, but mostly in shock. Like it's just something "made up". Sigh.

Well, I'm always sad when people die. I however was not a fan..I liked some of his older music but my whole life, MJ's been weird so I didn't have a high opinion of him like those who got to live through his non-weird years.

Sad day though.

I thought someone was joking with me when I heard this a couple of minutes ago. My mouth is hanging open in shock. What a sad sad day.

Both Farrah and Michael affected my life.

I grew up with MJ...I'm 47, and I grew up listening to him sing with the Jackson 5...and then watched him through the Thriller years... you can't deny that the man had so much talent.

I was going through my yearbook the other day (it is the year of my 30 year reunion), and it was so funny to see all of the girls senior portraits. We all had our hair flipped like Farrah...some of the gals even bleached their hair to look like hers. We all wanted to look like Farrah!

LOL Debra about the Farah hair. Man - all that hairspray. I remember girls going to their lockers between every single class so they could spray their hair again.

And having someone my 'age' pass away really brings mortality a little closer to me.

In my opinion, he was a very troubled man who never fully dealt with the exploitation and abuse from his childhood. I went from being a rabid fan as a teenager to completely repulsed as an adult. I am sad that his life took the arch that it did given his obvious immense talent.

Also, it is a little chilling when celebrities from our youth start dying. I mean, he is only 10 years old than me.

I think this is why I feel so weird about it. I was a HUGE fan as a kid, but as an adult, he was just so screwed up. It feels so surreal, and I feel strange.

well said. I remember those days back in the 80s where all the cool kids wore one glove. And trying to master the moonwalk. LOL I never could do it.

I am in shock about all of this and am quite sad by the events of the day.....I think someone said it earlier - it just brings to mind how things can change in one's life so suddenly and unexpectedly.

Well Said Susan and Traci. I agree :)

It's sad for everyone though. :( I was not a fan, but he was still a person with people who loved him. :( What a sad news day....

This is exactly what I was going to write. Obviously he had some mental things going on and the accusations, true or not in the most recent years are repulsive.

But the very first album I owned..yes ALBUM as in an actual record lol, was Thriller..it's like DH said, no matter what has occurred with him the past few years, he's probably the first "icon" of our generation to pass away and it's very shocking to all of us who grew up back when he was the king of pop.

lol - and here I sit here listening to Pandora ....Michael Jackson and my first love, Paul McCartney LOL Awful awful song... (Girl is mine). But it's a piece of my youth...and weird how a little part was just changed. I'm not even a fan...but it's just weird.

One of the first things that came to mind when I heard this was that people would automatically start talking about how "weird" he was despite what a TRAGEDY this is. I hate that, I really do.

We're all "weird" in some way and I don't think anyone should take the opportunity to voice such opinions when a human being who clearly led a troubled life has died. I would rather not comment at all if I was going to speak negatively about the deceased.

Three icons died this week, and I'm just feeling so vulnerable and sad and very much like I'd rather not see comments that are in any way derogatory towards anyone. Feel free to be upset with me, but please let's keep the comments positive.

Hey Manda, we all feel what we feel. I'm sorry you're so affected by this :(

The truth is that we ARE all a little weird, but we're not all "touching little boys" weird and a great many people see that nowadays rather than his icon status. Just like all we can see of OJ is Nicole Brown, Ron Goldman and that he's finally in jail, not what a fabulous player he was.

It just proves the point that people will look at your whole life when you die, not just the good years.

{{Hugs}} again Manda

I was a fan- heck I had his poster in my room as a kid (child of the 80s)- but no matter if you're a fan or not, it's always sad when someone dies before their time. :(

So sad. I have such great memories of listening to his music as a kid. He was an amazing entertainer.
