I said it would never happen...

but we now own a Wii.

I've been watching and listening to DH and DS all morning and I'm still not convinced it was a good idea lol. They are having fun though and watching a 4 year old try to learn the drums is pretty funny. We got Wii Fit too "for me" but as of yet it has not been hooked up. I think I'm on the bottom of the totem pole lol. I did play MarioKart with DH last night for a while and it was pretty fun :)

Mariokart is my faaaaaaaave

seriously..Nikki you will love it! It's crazy but we have the most quality family time around our Wii lol

It is fun. DS loves to play Mario Party 8, it's an easy game for younger kids and I love it too!

I was the same way Nikki.. no computer games for this house. *but* We own one now. It doesn't get played with very often, but it is quite fun to play Mario Kart against hubby and Kaydan. How that 4yo kicks my butt at driving I will never know.

We had one, traded it in for a ps3 (because I didn't care for the wii so much and DH wanted a ps3) and then ended up buying another one (because I just had to have wii fit) *rolls eyes* lol

I think we will enjoy it, but we are definitely going to have limits. I watched my baby brother not stick his nose out the door for about 10 years of his life due to playing video games and I'm determined that will not happen with DS. So after the newness of it wears off I'll probably limit it to 30-40 minutes a day...and then maybe some family time with it after supper.

We never let Emma play more than about 30 min at a time. She loves bowling and tennis and she loves when we let her play mariokart with us. Darik and I have all out wars with mariokart! LOL We have our best "family time" when we're playing wii too!

You'll love it, Nikki!! And I agree on limits. During the school year, the boys are only allowed to use the Wii on what the kids have dubbed "Wii-kends," and then for only an hour per day. During summer, I relax a bit and let them play one hour together and then 30 minutes each alone. That way, it's still a treat and not a given that they get to use it.

I used to have the boys "earn" time for getting schoolwork done, chores done, etc....used poker chips (each boy had a different colored chip) and each chip was worth 10 minutes. If they fought, talked back, or whatever...they would lose a chip for each infraction.

Hmmm maybe I should start that up again...they seem to live only for video games...

The Wii is very handy as a reward/punishment in our house. They get a set amount of use every other day & can lose it or earn extra by their actions. DS2 lost all use of the Wii for a week after arguing with me when I told him his time was almost up & we would be leaving for the gym then. He earned back 2 days by cleaning the playroom, living room & his bedroom without being asked to do so.

Taking away Wii time is the most effective motivator I have had in ages.

We have limits too- otherwise my almost 6 year ols son would play ALL day! We hadn't used the wii too much- Jaxon has an old PS2 he played, but it finally seems to have died, so he's been playing his wii and PS3 more.

What's funny is my husband is not a gamer at all (other than playing Madden on a blue moon, he doesn't really play) but my son is an addict! Yet my husband thinks we need to get an XBOX elite for Jaxon's 6th birthday. We NEED every system available? I think not!

We just started playing wii sports as a family and its tons of fun for all! :)

We love our wii

If you haven't opened up wii fit yet and its just for you i'd honestly recommend taking it back and getting EA sports active instead - its sooo much better.

You'll love it, Nikki! We've had ours for over a year. Our kids aren't allowed to play it without adult supervision (last summer they were allowed to play whenever they wanted, and they ended up wrecking something inside, we had to take it apart recently to fix it, but it wrecked 3 of our games). So they don't get to play it much. It's my DH that uses it the most, lol.

Oh how fun!! Congrats! I wanted one, but hubby not into this type of thing... so his ipod touch came instead...

I wasn't exactly thrilled when DH picked one up while he was out Christmas shopping, but we all actually really enjoy it! It provides some really fun times for us as a family. I got the Wii Active about 6 weeks ago, and I really like it!

We don't have one. We keep thinking maybe the kids are too little, and DH spends all of his time outside when he is home. Maybe when the kids are older. I have played one before, and I know it would be so fun to have one!
