:( :( about the toy recall. DH told me some high up guy (haha...that's what I get for not paying attention) in one of the companies in China committed suicide. Wow - have no idea what's going on. It wouldn't surprise me if other toy companies also join in the recall...I mean if it's an issue w/it being produced in China...lots of companies use the cheaper labor there, kwim.

Yeah, Kendra has a LOT of that Polly stuff. I don't think I'm going to mess with sending it back. It's a magnet issue, and really, she rarely plays with the stuff anymore (she's almost 10). I'd definitely be sending the stuff back if she was younger though.

That's quite a list - glad my kids are passed most of these toys but its a little scrary the magnitude of the recall! Can imagine there'd be some big losses for the manufacturers too!

We haven't bought any toys recently so we are in the clear. We did have the recall on the little yellow bunny that fisherprice had recalled because the pink nose could come off. A couple good things came out of it for us though. Our dd never would play with the bunny and I got it on sale for under $12 around Christmastime. So, we sent it back and now have a coupon voucher for $16 for any fisher price/mattel/hot wheels product(s) equally up to that amount.

Any little bit helps! I'm saving it to use closer to Christmas time.

The guy that commited suicide was the co-owner of the company. I read that, in China, it isn't entirely uncommon for disgraced businessmen, officials, politicians, etc to committ suicide to "right" their wrongs. Its still very sad.

About the recalls... even if your child doesn't play with the items anymore, you should still either throw them away or send them back for a new replacement toy. Lead is VERY dangerous to people, espeically children. If an adult is exposed to lead, their bodies only absorb about 10% of the lead. But children under the age of 12 absorb 50% which is why its so dangerous for children. AND... lead poisoning not only causes severe physical problems, but causes PERMENANT behavioral, emotional, and learning problems.

So just err on the side of caution and get rid of the recalled toys.

P.S. We have several of the Thomas toys as well as the Sesame Stree figurines that my one-year-old loves to suck on. We now have appointments to get their levels tested because my youngest has been having some symptoms of lead poisoning. *sigh*

I just wanted to make sure that I'm understanding correctly. From what I read, it seems that some of the toys (like the Pollys... which are what my daughter has) are only being recalled because of the magnets, right? NOT the lead paint? Did I misunderstand? Because if it's just a magnet issue, I'm not sending them back. But if it's a lead paint thing, I'll definitely get rid of them.

Oh, I see. Sorry. I understand now. When magnetix were recalled for the magnets we didn't return them either. My son was old enough and their "alternative toy" was total bollocks. Sorry for the confusion.

Well, one problem with throwing it away is that it will still effect the eco system. It will leach into the ground water and eventually be in our water system. If you send it back the manufacturer has the responsibility to handle it properly.
