Help me figure this out please!

My good friend just came down for the weekend, and she was telling me that her five year old daughter has lost a lot of weight recently and has doesn't have an appetite. She has also been complaining of dizziness.

I know that recently I read somewhere about a child having these same symptoms and it being something really, really serious. But I can't for the life of me remember where I read it or what was wrong with the child.

She doesn't have good healthcare where she is at, so I thought if I could remember what these were symptoms of this one time, she could have a leg to stand on when she goes to the doctor. (i.e. say, "Do you think it could be this, could you run some bloodwork?")

I'd love ya forever if you could remind me where I read that story, lol, or if you have an idea about what might be causing those symptoms, I would love to hear it.

Was that Emily's post about her friends baby? Let me see if I can find it, and see if its the one you were thinking of...

ETA: Nope, that wasn't it... I know what thread you're thinking of, but can't put my finger on it!!

I think any Dr that hears this he will be very concerned.....
If the child has a weight loss is not a good thing. I would say that all
she needs the last weight and current weight....The Dr should start a workup
on the spot.........

she needs to just go in and demand that things be looked at properly. Weight loss is something to pay attentionto in a child period. If her pedi won't give her kiddo proper care she needs to go somewhere else. Ce gets poked even when his weight stays the same ^_^

I agree little kids should not be losing weight! It's one thing if a child is "over weight" and a dr. has perscribed a weight loss program or something but a 5 year old that is totally SCARY! Tell your friend to get her daughter checked out ASAP!

I posted recently about a girl from my church

I hope it's nothing serious Kellie!

That was definitely the story that was making me sick to my stomach, Lena. I was laying in my bed last night trying to remember where in the world I had read it and what was wrong with the baby. :( It's like one minute your world is right and the next minute the rug gets pulled out from under you.

I am going to call my doctor here in town today and see what he thinks and also have him recommend a doctor in their town. They are pretty poor, so I would just feel better if I knew that they were getting good advice and not just seeing a doctor who will probably blow them off because he has a thousand other poor people waiting to see him.

Thanks so much you guys for posting for me.

I'll be praying for her Kellie, I hope it's something explainable or at least not as serious as little Emma. What a great friend you are for going to bat for her! Keep us posted!
