I'm setting up for homeschooling.

So I need a place for all the supplies and what-nots. I was going to go to Wal-Mart to buy one of those plastic drawer carts but then I remembered that I had an old dresser out in the garage that wasn't being used. It's small and perfect for what I need!

So I go out and start pulling out all the weird stuff that was left in there. And find a spider. No biggie. I grab some spider killer and spray. Find another one. Repeat. I find the third one and decided that I might want to spray the whole thing before I take it into the house. (brown spiders can be BAD in Missouri! so it's better to be safe than sorry!)

So I pull the drawers out to spray the inside and find a HORNETS nest. ACK!!!! I wasn't going to stick around and poke at it to find out if it was active. But we did use this dresser to keep stuff like plastic bags in it. So I'm a bit surprised that we didn't get stung. And it was in the garage? This dresser was just moved out there last year and repainted a couple years before that. How did they set up a nest so fast?

I am done with that project. I can't risk getting stung and swelling up since dh is traveling. He will have to kill all bugs when he returns home on Friday. (which means probably won't get done until Sunday). So now I'm making a pile of stuff to go into the dresser as I sort stuff that I've been collecting over the past few months.

And now I feel creepy all over. ick.

Ewwww! That just gave me shivers, too! I would have freaked! I also wouldn't be patient enough to wait for my husband to deal with it. My impulsiveness would have kicked in and I'd have been out buying a new dresser! Congrats on being a patient girl!

Uck... I hate anything that is creepy and creepy looking things that can sting... I'd, too, be getting a new dresser... Good luck!

Out of curiosity...what age of child(ren)? First time? I'm on the Kansas side...are you near KC? Once in awhile Science City has a homeschooling day...discount rates.

Are hornets wasps? (Sorry, stupid foreigner;)) I think I could deal with that, but spiders? No thanks. I'm even terrified of the ones we get, and they are tiny and not poisonous at all..

9, 7, & 4. And yes it is our first year. We are doing a virtual program that is through the state. And I'm about 2 hours away from KC. I'm not sure what Science City is. I'll google it. We are looking for some fun field trips!

Are hornets wasps?

In MO they are different. After further discussion with the wasp/hornet/mud dobber killers in my family, it sounds like it is a mud dobber nest. I'm still going to wait for DH to come home and destroy it.
