I enjoyed reading everybody's responses so much yesterday and getting a peak into your lives, I thought I'd post another poll and question:

Do you color your hair? And if so, do you color it by yourself or go to a salon?

I have the dubious honor of being from a long line of women who get grey early, so I can't even imagine NOT coloring my hair. I have the best stylist who just sit and gripes about her life for the hour that it takes -- she's a riot.

Yeah I do pretty heavy highlights at the salon. I never used to color, but I tried it a couple of years ago and loved it. So I'm blonde to stay. ;)

I used to when I worked..had nice highlights lol .now that I say home I don't really unless I want a change..I just do it myself now if I decide to lol

Nope - I'm one of those who used to be blonde as a teenager, and my hair turned a muddy brown kind of color, but now that the silver (thankfully) is rushing in with a vengeance, I am getting some 'natural' highlighting happening! I'm also not fussy, and probably wouldn't color anyway. (but then again, it's a girl thing and I don't really do girl LOL)

Not yet lol..I was strawberry blonde as a kid/teenager and as I've gotten older it's darkened into a deeper red, so I've never colored mine b/c I like the color I have. BUT...at the first sign of gray you bet I'll be looking up Mrs. Clairol! :)

I used to color it a lot when I was younger. A lot. :D I haven't colored in a long time and I won't until I start to go gray. :D

Nope, I don't. Once, back in my college years, I decided on a whim to go with a mid-auburn shade, just for fun. LOL, it turned my hair maroon. And oddly enough, it didn't look half bad. In fact it was kind of fun...for a short while.

I do! I do my own too!...I just get color (reddish/brown) and it would be soooo much more expensive if i went to the salon. So i stock up on lil boxes when they are on sale!

When I was in my mid-20's I did a lot of highlighting and lowlighting cause my hair was a dull mousy brown color... then I snagged my hubby and stopped coloring my hair... my dh is okay with it, he isn't crazy about the salon price and my natural hair has been getting richer and darker the older I get with nice copper highlights when the sun hits it. However, after 7 years with hubby and a 2 year old... I'm noticing a few gray hairs pop up... not excited about that... so I may have to start coloring my hair again... *sigh*

HELL YES! lol I started going gray when I was still in high school and my hair is black naturally. Yes, once it's all gray it'll be a really pretty silver but now...not so much. I usually experiment a lot with highlights and shades of dark for my overall color. I just went a couple days ago and got it dyed pretty close to my natural color with dark purple highlights. Super cute. I had quite a bit of blonde in it before that and it was just too much maintenance with as dark as my hair is naturally.

I bet you're sorry you asked me that! LOL

nope!! I have highlighted it a couple times, but have no plans again and don't plan to color it either. I'd love to do one that washes out after a handful of washings because i want to see myself as a brunette, just for fun, but I love my natural color!

My hair was really blonde when I was younger, but as I've gotten older it's naturally gotten darker so now it's different shades of brown. I've been coloring it since high school, I tried lots of different colors (though not all at once lol) which my mom hated. Then when I was in college I'd go to the salon to have it highlighted, but stopped that after we got married cause we just couldn't afford it since DH was still in school. Now I still color it but do it at home, I mostly go for a dark brown with some reddish tones.

I'm SO not a girly girl, but I LOVE having my hair done! I get bored easily and don't like to shop, so rather than change my wardrobe, I change my hair color. I'm naturally blonde, but as I've gotten older and had kids, it's really ash blonde/mousy light brown (I call it sewage blonde- just a little worse than dirty blonde! LOL)

I've been brown, red, blonde...if I wasn't a teacher and could get away with it, I'd be sporting La's pink streaks, but alas... In my mom's eyes, I was blonde and should STAY that way- she hates it when I do Brown or Red- but I like them all.

Currently have blonde and reddish highlights ;)

I also got gray hair really young....probably starting at around 25. Now at 35 I have tons and tons of gray hair so I do clor my hair, but I do it myself. However it's been almost 8 months since the last time I colored.....my hair does weird things during pregnancy and I'm scared to try and color it :D :D

I can't wait till this baby is here in a few short weeks so I can give my self a good coloring and get this gray COVERED!!!! :D :D :D

lol no I was born with natural pink hair... .^_^

yes, and I do it myself. I also am an early grey-er. I've had some grey hair all my life (really).. but when I hit my teen years it kinda exploded

Not since Touch of Sun in the late 80s. Remember that stuff?

I too come from a family of premature grayers. Only one of us colors. I'm now starting to think about coloring it but I'm also sort of an au naturale type of person so I'm conflicted.

I used to get blonde highlights done regularly in the salon, but then decided to go darker for a change - then went natural for a while, then felt like a change again and coloured it myself last weekend (its not kind of a brownish red).

I am just starting to get odd grey hairs, so I can still get away with exterminating them on sight - but when they increase in number (:() I'll be colouring nice and regularly again!

I need an "other" option. hehehe I do color my hair - highlights, lowlights, full color, no color ... but I don't do it myself and I don't go to a "salon" to get it done. I go sit in my best friend's kitchen and she does it for me. hehehhee And it's never what I want to do to my hair, it's what she wants to do to my hair. lol

my hair is naturally auburn red, currently more blond than red.

Well, I wasn't totally honest in answering the poll. I said "au naturelle", but I have had highlights a couple of times in the past -- not enough to really say I used to color my hair a lot.

I am getting more and more grays though. Right now my method is pulling them out -- I know, I know, "when you pull one out, two will grow in it's place", whatever. And my hubby totally makes fun of me when I'm pulling them out and says "you're gonna go bald" (thanks a lot honey!). Anyway, the grays are here and there, but as soon as I start getting patches I'll probably have to have some color.

My Nana has the most beautiful white hair, seriously, it's gorgeous! I know my hair will probably look like her's someday, but it's the in-between time that I don't want to go through. :)

Kresta, I know exactly what you mean. I have a friend with hair like that -- her's is almost a silvery white -- and I always think I'd be willing to be grey if my hair would look like that. Mine is still to mixed in with a murky brown though -- it's not a pretty sight uncolored!

I've been coloring/getting my hair colored since I was 13 years old. I hit puberty and this 2" wide strip of white just came in overnight. My mom went out and bought some Nice & Easy the next day, lol! I've done various shades of red/copper/auburn for the most part, with a very short stint with black hair, and a few 'basic' browns as well. Right now I've got a nice auburn with some 'ruby' lowlights and some weird blonde highlights. Honestly, if my hair weren't so long, I'd just let it go. I've got a fair amount of white hairs (loving the idea of calling them "sparkles," lol!) but until I decided to go short--I'm not willing to have it grow out and look weird, lol!

Absolutely! But I do it myself with my trusty Feria color! Naturally, my hair is a dull, mousy brown and has no dimension to it. I'd love to get highlights and lowlights done, but I just can't afford to do it and keep it up. For now, I stick with my "French Roast/Deep Bronzed Brown" color from the store! :)

I've colored my hair in past years just to try out different colors, but since last year I've been searching for "the" color to stick with. I even made a layout about it. LOL I don't have that many greys, but I still would like to cover what is there. :)

YES!

I go to a salon once a month and have it colored and cut! I would be totally grey if I didn't...and I'm sorry, but I'm way too young to be totally grey, and way too vain!

I have dh's full support here too. I've asked him if he thinks I should let it go, and I get a NO everytime! I just have it dark right now (love dark on me), but I'm going to get some fun and funky highlights put in it next month. I'm always changing it up...but oddly enough...the darker the better for me.

I get highlights done at a salon every two months or so. My natural color is really dark, and looks too harsh compared to my skin tone, so I highlight to soften it up a bit.

I haven't dyed my hair in about a year (before I was pregnant with my daughter). I used to dye my hair bright red. I don't mean a natural red- I mean RED! lol! I loved it sooo much though- I want to do it again soon! :) I just don't want to bleach it anytime soon (I have to bleach it before dyeing it red) cuz it's so stinky and I'm always with my baby. I also wonder if the stuff's ok to use while breastfeeding. I dunno but I can wait to do it anyways, no rush :p

my hair was a white blonde as a kid and I did dye it to keep that color as it started getting darker and I tried red, auburn, brown and just about every shade of blonde you can imagine but I have not dyed my hair in at least a year if not more.

So glad to read everyone's colour habits! I just wanted to make my 40th without needing the hair camo. And I did. No greys in sight.
But I am finally on the cusp of having to do it (I may get bald spots if I keep pulling out the greys). Though, I am not sure whether to go to a salon or try it myself.
Getting old is _ _ _ _ _ ( fill in the blank )!!!

OK...I have to confess...

When I was a teenager (and aren't teens supposed to antagonize parents? LOL), I help up a hand mirror to the top of my mom's head, while she was standing in front of the bathroom mirror. It highlighted alot of grey that she could not see.
She went out the next day and bought haircoloring. She had natural dark brown hair, and pretty much kept that same color, and then moved to a dark auburn.
Well, when she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, I did alot of research. Some studies have shown that chemicals in DARK hair dye can greatly increase a risk of non-Hodgkins. With our family history of lymphoma, I can't say that the years of hair dye caused the cancer, but I'm guessing it didn't help any either. Ten years later, she now has beautiful silver hair.

YES!!! Highlights (and lowlights!) are my best friends. I'm not ok with boring, plain, icky hair, so I do the whole salon thing roughly every 2 months. I love my "hair girl" and trust her to do nearly anything!
