dude.. guinea pigs just don't like me..

you remember my post a while back about different pets-- and when a lot of you guys suggested guniea pigs I said I thought they were mean re: a childhood friend having one that use to bite me..
well, they've been growing on me- visually anyway lol- they have some babies @ the pet store I buy crickets at.. as well as a larger open enclosure with older ones you can pet. So today I decided (why is beyond me) to squat down next to the enclosure and put my hand in to see if any of them would come up to me/let me pet them.
yeh. one came to me alright.
bit me.. and then ran away.

wth?! lol.. I don't believe all of you who say they are so gentle. ^_^

LOL I have never been bit by mine. He runs away when I try to pick him up which is normal I think but he usually calms down and lets me pick him up then once I have him in my hands he will fall asleep while I pet him. Maybe that guinea pig was possessed or something

yeah... I think they are odd pets...(no offense to the GP lovers here at SSD). I had one when I was growing up--a refugee from my dad's 6th grade classroom. She was sweet, but definitely not a pet that you would interact with.

I had GPs when I was younger who actually won medals at GP shows! LOLOLOL! How funny is that! They were handled often from babies until they were older, they were never skittish, never mean, etc. My mom got my sister a GP that was handled here and there but not often enough and it was so skittish and you just never knew if it was going to bite or not. So, from my experience, it was all on how much they are handled from the very start!
