My daughter has it and we have gotten by with Dramamine when we go on trips and such. She is now going to preschool and it's about a half hour drive. I do not want to give her anything that makes her sleepy. Her teacher told me to try ginger root. Has anyone else tried this and does anyone have ideas to help??? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ginger is great for upset stomachs, I'm not sure about motion sickness. Have you looked for sea bands in her size? Bonine for kids is allegedly non-drowsy. Andrew says adult Bonine doesn't work as well as Dram, but it's an option. He uses it when he knows he'll have to drive after flying. He's ok in a car so long as there's air blowing on his face.

My daughter has a slight case of motionsickness. I usually stick her in the middle seat so she can see out the front window which seems to help a lot. Also driving with the windows cracked so the fresh air hits them helps too. Other than that I guess just leave a bit earlier and take a bucket with you. And you can try the non-drowsy stuff but I am not sure how well it works.

My oldest gets motion sick, but not as bad as your daughter. :( A half hour ride does her in?? Poor girl :( I agree with the middle seat recommendation and if you have A/C for the back seats, a light breeze of that can help. On Mythbusters, they had one episode where they tested motion sickness cures and found that ginger was actually helpful. They used a ginger pill, but I know that there are ginger lollipops and of course gingersnaps that could help. I hope that gets better for her! My son is 17 now and rarely feels the motion sickness unless he tries to read or play a game in the vehicle.

My oldest gets it really bad, and ginger works for him, but he swallows it in pill form (he's 15 now). As a child, we used dramamine, and made sure he ate quite a bit before we left in the car. That helped. When we drove 20 minutes to school (he was in 5th grade) he would routinely get sick on the way to school, but never on the way home.

We have some car sickies in our family & we discovered Sea Bands about 3 years ago. They are worn on the wrist & have little plastic knobs that put pressure on a point on the wrist...for whatever reason that place on the wrist controls the nausea & car sickness. We found ours at Wal-Mart, but I think they are sold in most drugstores. I love them because they work & you aren't putting anything at all into your body. I also know some others that swear by them. Hope that helps.

My dd gets it soooo bad, her doctor told us that benedryl has the same ingredients as dramamine, just use the non drowsy formula.

My daughter used to be really bad too, but she has grown out of it a bit. We tried those writst bands when she was really small, but she kept pulling it off. What worked for us on shorter trips was (and this is going to sound weird) putting a plaster over her belly-button. It's an old wives tale, and we were desperate and ready to try anything:)

It could have been a coincidence (probably was), but she was never sick with that plaster on. Now that she is getting better, we use the travel drugs if we are going to be driving for more than 4 hours, on shorter trips she just lets us know if she feels sick and we stop so she can get out and walk around a bit. Luckily school is only 5 mins away, so she doesn't get sick then. Having the windows open seems to help too.
