I have been avoiding talking about this anywhere, but I think I'll ask before I go into the doctor tomorrow. I had a tubal in 2008 but when I was done nursing Parker in 2009 I had a Mirena placed so that I wouldn't have a period. I have very difficult to manage endometriosis but watched my mom have a hysto at age 26 and don't want to go through what she went through...so I'm trying to keep my parts for now!

The IUD has been doing it's job, causing me to have no cycles (yay) and has been in place for 6 months now. Well I don't know what to think because for about the past month, I have really really bad skin. Like I get that foods, stress, etc can cause breakouts but this is terrible. I'm not stressed (particularly), I have no food allergies. I never had acne as a teenager...just a random pimple during cycle time and some pretty fierce first-trimester acne during all 3 pregnancies. So I really feel that this is a hormone issue. I just don't understand how it's all related.

For the last few days I've been very pinchey and crampey, for lack of a better way of putting it. I have no spotting or anything for alarm...but something is definitely off. I'm going to call the dr first thing in the morning and beg them to see me tomorrow. Does anyone have ANY advice for me or experience with this? :o

i dunno.. I had mirena and it screwed me up BAD (lol I'll spare you the list)... really. The dr insisted that the hormones wouldn't affect me cause you know it's all in your uterus, but either I'm a rarity or they're wacked. So I def think it could be that.

k, like I'm fairly certain I'm going to demand it removed. Is that ... a big deal? or like no biggie?

I have a Mirena and am having the same issues - my skin is horrid at the moment. I look like a teenager again. My skin has always been pretty good, except first trimester. I'm also struggling with oily hair too. I have had my Mirena for over a year now and while I had spotting for the first two months, I haven't had aunt flo visit for for awhile. But I'm getting crampy latley too, craving the bad stuff and all that.

I'm sure it's a hormonal issue too and am hoping to see the doc next week to sort it out. My mum had a full hysto at my age and I saw the repercussions - I need to avoid it at all costs!!

I'd be happy to talk more in depth via pm if you like...

Lita and Lauren, I'm glad I'm not alone. Your posts are making me feel better already. lita I also have notice oily hair, but I have v. short hair, and of course short hair gets oily faster, so I hadn't thought much of that. This acne is terrible, embarassing, and ridiculous. And unfortunately not just on my face. I have some blemishes on my collarbone which are driving me NUTS. Like who gets pimples there? Sheesh!

La, I don't think he'll argue with me. Or, if he does, it will be futile. I'm pretty assertive when it comes to my medical care :p I could see him arguing that I need to make another appt for that though. I'm going to remove all sharp objects from my purse so if he tries that I won't go jail. Srsly the hormones are out. of. control.

I got a Mirena in January, I had skin issues, but was having them before that. I actually had them since I had my ds, but they are finally clearing up now. I do still get my AF, I wonder if that has something to do with me not having issues on it.

Me too - they're everywhere! :cursing: I would love to get mine removed but I was told it would involve being knocked out again, which is pricey. Ugh. Being a woman sucks

I do have a PP (Pimple Problem) but I don't use any pill or Mirena. But I still think it is a hormon problem and it seems that sugar intensifies my problem at the moment even more. Could I request a test (if there is such thin available) to see if my hormones are out of balance? Of course that requires that I should go to the obs/gyn. haven't been in years :o

I was in for a D & C after the loss of twins and ws given the option to get teh Mirena at the same time. I had planned on doing it down the track instead, but ws told if I did it then it was cheaper because I was already being put under. If I had gone back later it would have been $100. I was told removal was the same - either put under or needles in my vjayjay. Uh, no thanks

I don't have any advice but I work in a hospital and I have never heard of them knocking people out to put in or take out and IUD...so I would look into that lita if you were considering having it taken out~

I've never had one and I'm to scare to get one but I do know they can "slip" and kind of get out of place!!! Just wanted to wish you good luck in getting in to the doc this morning and hope you get it taken care of!!!!!

Thanks, girls. I'm going to call at 8 as soon as they open.

That's why I had asked if the removal was no big deal, because I also was not feeling during my IUD placement. I had it placed during a cone biopsy, so I was already numbed for that. I have a fixed (won't move/give .... like it should) cervix due to scar tissue from 3 c-sections....so ANYTHING in a speculum hurts...therefore I know the removal will not feel good...but I'll get over it :p

I don't have the experience with this...however...when you make the appointment tell them it is for REMOVAL...that way the "time is allotted" for it.

I hope everything goes well :) I had Mirena for over a year and didn't have any problems. I only switched to BCP after Lilly was born because the Yaz pills helps with my PMDD. With Mirena I had to be on Prozac for PMDD, not fun.

have an appt at 10:45, can't wait to get some answers! Tired of having these side effects when I don't *need* the iud for contraceptive reasons, I'll let you know what they say!

I have noting to add, but wanted to thank the people that responded. I am seriously considering Mirena, but had no idea about the acne problems you all have had with it.

I didn't have acne problems from it.. I had a host of other hormonal related issues ^_^ seriously, everytime someone asks me about the IUD I just say NO NO NO NO NO NO! plus, I've had way too many friends with severe issues (preferated uterus and what not). If you ARE considering the iud I would def look @ the copper one more seriously than the mirena. IMO they're full of crap when they say the hormones don't have an effect on you.

I never had any hormone related problems when taking the pill, so I figured I would not have problems with the Mirena. I will look into it more than reading the informational booklet. Thanks.

I'm on bcp now, and aside from some gayness the first couple months, I've been fine- no where near the crap I went through with the iud. It's def something about mirena & the delivery of the hormones. I know some people do fine with it.. I mean it varies from person to person you know? just like depo is fine for some peeps and turns others into crazy people ^_^

and.........it's OUT! LOL ;)

The dr. tried to convince me if I stuck with it for a bit that these symtoms would get better..but whatevs. He says it's normal to have these mimiced pregnancy symptoms. But here's the thing. I didn't want to feel the way I did during my 3 first trimesters, and I got babies out of those. I'm certainly not going to go through this for nothin!

So the PA removed it, easy peasy like La said.

Lita, it was NOTHING. Took 90 seconds and barely hurt at all.

I've got BCP that I'll start taking tonight (i've been on bcp every day for the last 14 yrs outside of TTC, pg, and nursing) so this I know I can handle.
