To unzip or not to unzip - that is the ACDSee question

I'm using ACDSee Pro for my organizing system, and ACDSee can see inside zip files without having to unzip them, thus saving space. But I read somewhere, and I'll be monkey's uncle if I can remember where, that leaving files zipped for a long time can cause corruption. Not good.

So question for those who care to weigh in - do you always unzip your files after downloading? Do you keep your zip files as backup? Do you back up your unzipped files/folders?

I've also heard/read that zipped files can corrupt. I would unzip them and don't forget to back 'em up! ;)

(I only backup unzipped files)

Yes, they can go corrupt... I lost a couple purchases because I DL'ed and waited a couple months before getting around to unzipping... and the folders were no good anymore

.zip files don't compress .PNGs and .JPEGs very well anyway and you're not really saving space leaving them zipped.

Unzip them and trash the zips.

What Megan said. :) There's really not much point in keeping them. They're pretty useless for backups b/c they corrupt so easily, and it's not safe to use just the unzipped files to access your goodies, b/c, well, they corrupt so easily. lol

Right, zips corrupt. And they don't save you space at all really. The only reason stores use zips, is to package things up together so you're not trying to download 40 individual items for a kit.

Unzip, backup, and delete the zips.
