P & PT- My daughter's pneumonia is worsening

11/13 UPDATE- They aren't sending us to the hospital because that is "too dangerous with her given condition"- and then they say, "But don't worry".... yeah, right. Here's what they think- she had bacteria pneumonia (and treated it with Omnicef and then the shots of some antibiotics can't remember but the name starts with an "R"). Now the xrays showed no effusion (fluid leaking to the outer lining of the lung) but also showed that lung in basically the same condition and she's consistently had a fever the entire week or so. Today the gave her a breathing treatment to see if it made any difference in oxygen levels (it didn't help) and ran a battery of tests. Her lungs now crackle on both sides so they think she has developed another type of pneumonia that's viral in addition to the Mycoplasma pneumonia. So yeah... things suck.

I now have her on motrin/tylenol every 4 hours to keep the fever down, Augmentin (antibiotic for the bacterial pneumonia) and Zithromax (antibiotic for the viral pneumonia). I also obviously have to watch her cough/breathing... and all these MASSIVE antibiotics I'm told will tear up her stomach, so I also have to mix lactinex granules in yogurt or pudding to stop diarrhea and yeast infections from compounding things. Needless to say, I took a half day off of work and will probably miss a bunch next week too. Neither of us are sleeping well for obvious reasons... but I did manage to scarp a page yesterday while she napped (the only good news of the week).

This poor baby! Thank you all SO much for your continued thoughts and prayers (and to Cindy Schneider for brightening my day yesterday). I'm sure you'll have more updates from me soon.

Old post--Update in post #42 - I'm beside myself right now. Last Tuesday, she diagnosed her with pneumonia and gave her antibiotics. she seemed to be getting a bit better as the fever subsided. We went to Kansas for the wedding and the nurse called Friday morning to ask if she had fever and to check in, etc. At that point she didn't have one, but the next couple nights she ran low-grade fever (really low like 99.7 to 100.5) and didn't look great, but no big complaints. After being up with her coughing most of the night, DH stayed home with her and took her back in today.

It's getting worse. They gave her a BIG shot of a different antibiotic in one leg and then came back and apologized saying they needed to give her another in the other leg (had the nurse known the severity of the situation, they'd have done both at once). DH said of course she was hysterical and crying for mama : ( They are sending us for xrays first thing in the morning and a follow-up visit at 2:45 to compare last week's xray to this weeks. If its a "fluid bubble" they may have to resort to something "invasive"... I don't even want to think about that unless I have to. He carried her out and came home.

Please send prayers and positive thoughts her way. Seeing my baby like this is the worst.

You've got them! I hope the shots do the trick and she's better tomorrow. A few years ago my DS had antibiotic resistant ear infections. We spent a full month battling very high fevers, constant pain, and 4-5 antibiotics that stopped working within 48 hours. He finally got the shots, and he improved quickly after that. I remember the shots being very painful, though. :( He could hardly walk the rest of the day. I think I remember doing warm baths to help ease the stiffness at the doctor's suggestion.

{{{hugs to both of you}}} how old is she?

I remember one year when I had I think they called it walking pneumonia...felt like someone was sitting on my chest...can't imagine for a little one...and I didn't get that bad...poor thing...hope those shots kick in and help her quickly!

I'm so sorry Stephanie! Poor baby, sending hugs and positive thoughts your way. Hope that sweet girl is feeling better asap.
