NSBR: Windows 7

Has anyone upgraded to Windows 7 yet?

Right now I'm using Windows Vista...and I'm sure I'm one of the few that likes it. My laptop has vista on it but I have the option for a free upgrade to windows 7. I'm thinking about it but I'm not sure I want to take that "leap" yet.

So if you are using Windows 7, what do you think about it?

I like Vista too. I need a new PC but will look for one with Vista because my IT fiance says Windows 7 is not allowed in the house until it hits SP1...That way the majority of the bugs are out of it

I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 on it. My techy husband said it was good thing and some reviews I read were favorable. It is supposed to work faster and not take up as much memory as Vista does.

I haven't noticed a difference between Vista and 7 except for....

At the bottom of your screen, instead of having a button/tab for every window you have open, you have just one button for each program. When you hover over that button, thumbnails for the windows that you have open appear and you click the one you want. It takes some getting used to and for the most part after two weeks I'm used to it and sort of like it. It keeps that bar at the bottom from looking messy even if you have lots of windows open.

One of the coolest things I noticed - TTF or font files...they show an actual preview of the font on the thumbnail for the file. I LOVE that!

HTHs

That would drive me I.N.S.A.N.E.

I have been wondering the same thing. I am with Vista and like it alot. Thought 7 looked neat tho.

Sorry to high-jack, but does anyone know if you upgrade to 7, do you have to upgrade your MS Office programs too? Or, do they run on W7?

I've got a free upgrade to Windows 7 with my laptop but I'm holding off until January to do it, give it a few months to see what sort of bugs they turn up.:)

Also I live in fear of having to reload my software again if they upgrade Windows. I *hate* that part of having a new computer. It takes me weeks to get everything the way I like it & the Geek Squad seems dubious about whether I'd have to reinstall everything. I'll face that after christmas

I'm a fan of Vista too. I really do not understand the people that flip out about it. It's really not that different from XP or ME or whatever you were running before. Maybe I just adapt to these things better somehow, lol, I dunno.

My husband is in the IT group at our company, and we're waiting on SP1 too. Our whole company is moving to Windows 7 AND 64 bit, but they are waiting until at least SP1, possibly SP2, to start installing it. Right now we don't even have print drivers for all of our printers/faxes/plotters. So we have to wait for that anyway.

Everything different drives you insane :p

I figure I'll wait to SP1 either way. I just want to get a feel for what people think before I make any decision.
All of this has really helped.

i have Vista. i don't understand why everyone hates it? i dont see how its different from anything else. windows is windows to me.

Well DH upgraded to it (he had XP and Vista on his desktop and upgraded the Vista, then I think he has finally deleted his XP) and the ONE thing that is great about it for him, is that it finally can handle his power saving settings. So when it goes to sleep it shuts everything down (even the cooling fans) and then when he goes to use it again, he just hits a key and it pops back up open within seconds. Vista/XP never powered down that well/easy for him before. So Windows finally fixed that. Also I know that the 64 bit system works better with Windows 7 vs Vista 64 bit, he told me it does but I don't remember why. So when I get a new laptop next year with Photoshop reinstalled, it is supposed to fly with the 64 bit dual channel blah blah blah. Course that does require me to reinstall my programs and my add-ons...I hate that part!
