Prayers for our little boy

Hi my friends,

my little boy Tobias is now 8 years old and since last year we know that he has some learning difficulties and now the final tests will be made if he has to leave the "normal" school and go to a special school! I'm almost fine with it! Sure it would be better if he would be able in the "normal" school, but we want the best for him!

But my little boy don't feel good with it! When he asked us, if the teacher (who he really loves a lot) said if he could stay in his school or if he needs to go to the special school and I told him the truth, that we all think, that he wouldn't make it, he began to cry... He don't want to leave the school and start all new again... I so understand him and I feel soo sad for him, but I see how hard the normal school is for him. He is learning new things but really really slow.... and in normal school there is no way they could help him... Right now he loves going in school, but we fear that with the time he will not love to go there, because he always is the last in learning new things. In Germany we aren't allowed to homeschool our kids so having him at home is no option.

Please pray for him, that we all find together the best way for him.... We really need every support we could get...

{{{Claudi}}} hugs to you! First off I am aware of the rules on homeschooling in Germany ... HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) keeps us updated on a few of the families in Germany that attempt to homeschool their children that they are trying to represent in your courts...and all that they have to go through to TRY to homeschool. It's very scary what they go through from what I have read. I wish you had the right to homeschool like we do here...I have 2 children that have learning difficulties and that is ONE of the reasons I am homeschooling.

I don't think children in general like leaving what they are familiar with ... it might take a little bit of time ... but hopefully he will quickly make friends at the new school and actually feel better about himself by finding out he doesn't always have to be the last to catch on to new concepts. It actually in the long run might be better for his self esteem ... although truthfully I do not know anything about your special schools. I hope if the decision is made to move him there...that it will actually help him.

Can you keep him in contact with a few of his friends from the regular school? Maybe that would help as well. Please keep us updated!

...and please don't hesitate to post here because your English might not be perfect...well I can tell you right now...that my last name is German but I can't speak a word of it ... and actually was told last weekend at Robotics Competition by a German Foreign Exchange Student that I was pronouncing my last name wrong! (I thought that might give you a giggle)

I will certainly be thinking of you both. It's so hard to see your child hurting even if you're doing the right thing. I'm sure there will be difficulties in the transition but it may really be a good thing for him in the long run. I hope so. HUGS!

Aww, I am sure that is a hard decision for all of you, but I am sure you will come to the right decision for Tobias.

On a side note, your English is great and I love the name Tobias. It was a finalist as a name for my Nicholas.

I know it is so hard to see your son sad. My daughter is 9 and I know that she is terrified of the thought of moving -- I think they just get used to something and are afraid of change (aren't we all!?). But, my DD had new girls join their class this year and within a few days, they had made friends and weren't really the "new girls" anymore. So, if you are going to move him, I'd say now is probably the best time when kids still make friends fairly easily and are more accepting than they are in a few years. (((Hugs!!))) I hope you will find a solution that really works for him!!

Claudi have you been to visit the special school he might attend as a family? I'm a teacher in a special school overf here in England, I teach 6/7 year olds and we're getting a new class member after Christmas. He came to visit with his Mum, I've been to visit them and he has had quite a few sessions where he's come to 'play' with my class. He's feeling a lot happier about coming now - especially when he saw our hydrotherapy pool and two soft play rooms
