PSCS 3 basic question

PSPX2 has been giving me fits lately and PSCS3 came with the laptop I got in July. So I am trying it out thinking of switching. I expect the learning curve of things being different like names, commands & shortcuts but the little things I never realized had to be set up because they are the default in PSP are driving me nuts.

Zooming.

If i use the keyboard or the mouse shortcuts to zoom in or out the photo or layout itself will change size but the window does not. This has turned out to be the single most aggravating thing for me. I have 'zoom resizes windows' checked under general preferences, but the windows do not resize, the image just zooms in and out of the window frame.

Also how do you make the transform tool default to 'maintain aspect ratio'.

Any help would be appreciated.

I use PSCS4, but I think it is the same. I use the keyboard shortcut "Z" to call up the zoom tool (or alt-Z to zoom out). I think up on the tool bar, there is a check box that you check to resize the windows when you zoom.

As far as I know there is no way to set the defaut to maintain the aspect ratio, but if you hold down the shift key while resizing, it does it for you, or you can hit the little lock icon between %'s at the top after you've enabled the transform controls.

Ctrl + and - change the window size. You can also hit Ctrl Alt 0 to get it to 100%.

Even though some of this is frustrating, it's well worth it. I converted from PSP years ago and it was difficult, but I like PS so much more.

I've got the box checked but while the image itself resizes fine the window around it (with the minimize, maximiz & close buttons & image name on the top) does not change size. It stays the same. Crtl-+ & - do change the window size, thanks for that Sheri. Is there anyway to make the mouse control do it too?

Stacey, I guess I'm not completely sure what you are trying to do. I have both boxes checked for zoom with scroll wheel and zoom resizes window, but I mostly use the hot keys. When i use the scroll wheel it has the same effect at ctrl +/-. It's been so long since I've used PSP, I just can't remember how it works to compare it. Sorry!

I'm getting different results when I use the scroll wheel from when I use Ctrl +. With Ctrl +, the window & image resize together. If I use the scroll wheel, only the image inside the window changes size. The window itself stays the same size. I've got resize with scroll wheel checked so I'm guessing there must be a box somewhere I am not seeing that is keeping the window from resizing as well as the image with the scroll wheel

So it's not working even with both "zoom with scroll wheel" and "zoom resizes window" checked? That's really weird?! You can always go on the Adobe website, there may be something there. Good luck!

HI-
Kinda new at this site but going to take a stab, with a slightly different take from what was mentioned above..( although I do all that too <wink>.).
I am assuming (hate that word, LOL), that as you do your favorite z method thingy...you want the WHOLE area to grow...

If so, try this:
You know when ( for ex)
file >new > 12x12...and the new doc lands in the middle of the work space.

ok from there, grab the corner (i use lower right, just because) and drag it pull it diagnally out....then more gray is going to show up around this area.
NOW, do your zoom thingy, and see if that is what you are wanting to occur.
Mine is set to mouse wheel roll/scroll (set in edit>pref)

Also from this stretched out area... one can access the note feature to keep track of all credits.

The grey area will appear if I resize down, but what I want is, when using the scroll wheel, for there to be no grey area when it resizes down and for the window to get bigger if I resize up. It does it automatically in PSP. I suspect it should be working in PSCS. I guess I need to visit the website & see if it's a glitch of some sort. It came installed on the laptop & I can't fiind the disc or I'd just try reinstalling it...
