Tonight is the first day of Hanukkah. We will celebrate each day by lighting the Menorah, retelling the Miracle of Lights, playing the dreidel game (and where did I put the chocolate coins?!?!!?) and making latkes tonight for dinner. We're not Jewish, but observe many of the Jewish traditions through the year as part of our faith.

Do you ever celebrate traditions from a faith other than your own, or a cultural celebration not typical of your culture?

no I dont. As a child when I went to Sunday School they did tell the story of the Miracle of Lights which was kinda a tradition but as an adult I no longer do it.

We don't really celebrate them but I definitely plan on teaching my kids about them. Emma is very interested in all the different traditions but Madelyn is still way too little yet.

We celebrate certain holidays that are not of our faith or culture. We're pagans so Christmas is a cultural holiday, Yule on the solstice is the religious one. St Nicholas Day (Dec 6) and Saturnalia (Dec 26) are non faith & non culture holidays. We usually celebrate Yom Kippur as well thanks to some Jewish friends who always invited us over for it

We are Christians and we do celebrate some of the Jewish holidays with our dear friends who are Jewish.

We do celebrate Christmas etc., though in I guess what you could view as a family-oriented celebration rather than a traditionally religious manner.

We, also in our own little way, mark Diwali, and the Chinese New Year as it was such a great way to introduce the idea of other faiths and traditions to our boy. I kind of want him to make up his own mind about faith and the various practices through out the world, though I realise we do influence him significantly. We started with these two celebrations as his Nursery school did, really, and though it a great idea and kept it going.

No I don't but I am aware of the traditions out there and if ever ask to participate by friends I would do so wholeheartedly. I also plan on teaching my daugther's about the other traditions.

We are not religious but we do celebrate holidays throughout the year. We exchange gifts and such around the solstice/Yule. And my children visit their grandparents the week of Christmas. They always have so much fun and it's a much appreciated break for mama. Even though I start to miss them 5 minutes after they leave. haha

My parents are Jewish but we never really did a traditional hanukkah. We always just decorated a tree (which my mom called our Hanukka Bush lol) and opened gifts on the 24th - Santa on the 25th.

Happy Hanukkah !:p
We have lighted up our Hanukkah lamp few hours ago with the first candle of Hanukkah ... I just love this holiday with the doughnut and potato latkes!
our kids will be home for a week starting Sunday for the holiday....I see lots of shopping coming my way next week
we are jewish and we live in Israel so we only celebrate our own holidays... but we do celebrate the new eve LOL

We're excited to light tonight, too...and are making latkes for dinner to go along with a potato & leek soup. I hadn't even thought about making donuts! Yumm.. :)

Hope you have a blessed Hanukkah!

Blessed Hanukkah for you and your family too dear ... and you got to make some donuts with lots of jam! LOL

Well technically we don't ... but we do always have major Mexican food on Cinco de Mayo ... we're not of that descent ... but wayyyyyyyyyyyy back when I was in middle school the Spanish teachers always celebrated in Spanish Class and I just kind of picked it up ... and my family expects a big feast on that day (and then we eat leftovers all week long). ;-)

I used to send a couple of friends Hanukah wishes when I was still in touch with them, but I still celebrate the Chinese New Year (though it is difficult to find Chinese bakery items in my town, I still hand out the lucky red packets to loved ones). I keep aware when certain Jewish or Chinese holidays are since I grew up in an area with a lot of Jewish people and was Chinese minor (and spent a year between Hong Kong and China).
