Magical Refilling HD? Help, please!

A few days ago I moved 25 GB of photos to another computer. Immediately afterward the "My Computer" window showed the newly freed space on my C drive. Today I noticed that the C drive is back to showing only 2 GB free, just like before the move. The picture files are still gone, and I've put less than 1 GB of additional stuff onto my HD. Restarting didn't help. Any suggestions? Thanks!

have you emptied your trash/recycle bin?

have you defragged your computer lately?

Have you tried a disk cleanup program? I usually run CCleaner and it really helps

Thanks for the help so far. Trash is emptied, and I was planning to defrag overnight tonight since I'm guessing it's going to take a while. I'll try CCleaner, too.

ETA: I just remembered that my Norton 360 has a cleanup program, so I'll probably use that one instead.

I defraged and cleaned, and together they freed up almost 1 GB. 10 minutes later that GB had gone missing, too, and I was back to under 2 GB free. I'm running a backup now, and when it finishes I'm going to test my HD. I suspect it's about to die on me. Perfect timing, since we bought a new desktop computer last weekend and my camera died a day later. :cursing: DH is going to kill me if I tell him I need to order a new HD this week, too!
