NSBR: Workout DVDs and others

I really really want to get back into shape. I don't necessarily want to lose weight, but I really want to tone everything up and just feel good about myself. I don't think I have a bad body but I'm not completely comfortable in my own skin.
So this year, I really want to focus on me. On exercising, eating better, finding myself, etc.

So here's my questions to you...
1. What are your favorite workout dvds/workouts in general? (Ultimately I want to get a membership to the gym but for now I have to settle for home)
I thought about Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred and/or Carmen Electra's Strip Aerobics box set thing.
2. What would you suggest to help "find myself"? I know that's a weird question, but maybe someone else has gone through this and can direct me in right direction.
I'm 24 yrs old and by now you would think I know myself. Which I do, but at the same time I feel like I don't know my completely self. And like I said I'm not completely comfortable with myself.

Sorry for the long post, I just figure hopefully someone can help me a little bit.

i cant really suggest any work out in particular but i love yoga, pilates and tai chi. They are awesome if you just want to tone up (ive personally never lost much weight from doing it, but its great for toning and a strong core). If you join a gym, and they have the Les Mills classes, try body balance. Its a combination of all three plus relaxation. Love it.

Cant help u with the finding yourself, but good luck!

I have tried the 30 day shrink and its a great workout but i love to walk outside the house with my baby and do my 6km a day instead of doing the workout in front of the TV.

I did it. I bought the 30 day Shred.
Sunday will be day 1. I have this thing with starting something mid week or at the end of the week.

I'm starting on sunday/monday with my second round of training with Jillian. I'm not sure if I'm gonna start out with the 30DS just to get back into the groove, or if I'm gonna go for straight out punishment and go with her other, longer, harder DVDs. We'll see what sunday brings. Either way, I want to lose some more weight before my friends wedding in April ad the bridesmaid dress I have to wear (that I haven't actually even seen).

Its a great work out!! As for finding yourself, I wish I could help, its my mission for this year as well!

i think i'm going to that Jillian Michaels dvd. i need someone like that; a personal drill sergeant, lol.

I'm doing JM's 30 Day Shred. I'm currently on Day 5, Level 2. Yesterday was my first day on Level 2. I LOVE how it's only about 20 minutes. That is a major plus for me. Now if I could only get my eating under control.....

I did a five mile walk video which sounds easy but it really was not as easy as it sounds. I walked six miles almost everyday at the time and "walking" with the video made me sore as heck. Part of it was the weights and part of it was how high she had you picking up your legs and kicking and stuff. So it was really more then just walking.

As for finding yourself...maybe take a class at your local community college or start writing in a journal. Try something new that you have always been afraid to do before but really want to. Take up a new hobby. Go somewhere new that youve always wanted to go...(all of which is advice I should take myself!!)

Boy, now I feel like I need the video! I agree with the whole personal drill sergeant thing! Could you imagine her yelling at you everyday??

I have been doing the 30 day shred for about 3 weeks now and I haven't lost a single lb. or inch I am very disappointed. IT did kick my ass the first 3 days and I have moved up in the levels yesterday was my first attempt at level 3 and I really liked it. I just want to start seeing some results!!!! I also do Kickboxing at my local Golds gym on Wed. And I have the Quick fix kickboxing DVD that I alternate with the Shred. But I do something every single day.

you know relying on numbers for your weight loss is not always good especially if you are working out alot because muscle weighs more then fat. Its better to look at how your clothes are fitting to see if it is working

I'm afraid of this happening with me too. Have you changed what you eat? Or are you a fairly healthy eater to begin with?

See I'm going to seriously watch what I eat...give myself 1 cheat day a week.
I mainly want to tone up a little and just feel healthier.

sometimes it takes awhile to notice a difference. I used to walk or ride my bike to the park everyday while my kids were in school to get out of the house. It is 2.8 miles to the park each way. Sometimes I would ride/walk up with my kids in the afternoon and it took me several months (probably three or four months) to really start noticing a big difference. I wish I had never let the weight come back once I lost it all.

Jessica the sad thing is my clothes aren't fitting differently either :(

I find that allowing myself 1 cheat PER day, works even better than a whole cheat day (for me of course, everyone is different). I get a package of small candies, like reese cups, and I'm allowed 1 at the end of the day, if I've been good. 1 little reese cup isn't going to hurt me as much as I was hurting myself on my 1 cheat DAY. Kwim? But that's just me :)

Kim that sucks. When you do the shred are you DEAD at the end of the 20 minutes? Even when I did level 3 for like 3 weeks (the last time I did it before the wedding), at the end of the workout I was still dying because I really pushed myself (3lb weights, deeper squats, etc). But I guess everyone is different, it might just not be a good fit for your body/metabolism. IDK

Jackie I really should watch more closely to what I am eating, however I have cut out all my favorite junk foods and no more desserts for me either :( I think the big thing for me is to just increase my water! I rarely drink anything all day long.

Jessica yeah I agree it does take a long time to see results but it would be nice to at least see a lb or 2!

Just don't eat a whole pizza and call it your cheat for the day, and you're good, LOL!
I get discouraged easily as it seems to be hard for me to lose weight. So I really need that 1 cheat a day to lift my spirits. After I get into a groove with it, I usually end up not needing that piece of chocolate EVERY day, but only every few. But in the beginning it REALLY helps me. I was eating AWFUL on my "cheat day" and it was really counter-productive.

I have just started the 30 Day Shred and it is kicking my behind :crying: But to be fair, I am pretty lazy. I definitely recommend this one.
