Recycling help?

I've been thinking about recycling for a while. Wanting to start but not knowing where. We've saved soda cans for ever-I give those to my mom to recycle, but I want to recycle everything I can.
A couple months ago, we had just bought a case of water, and I saw one of those commercials-I think it might have been a Brita commercial- about the bottle of water: 8 hours on your nightstand forever in a landfill. Since then, I've been saving every single plastic bottle we use. I've got bags of them, and no idea what to do with them, or even if all the types of bottles I have can be recycled together.
So I've been searching the net this morning trying to find out all I can on what can and can't be recycled. I found Earth911 and it's been helpful, but I want more lol.
Does anyone have any tips, or know of any good site about recycling that might help me out?

One suggestion about your water bottles - fill them back up with a Brita pitcher ;) It's what we do. This way, they get used and used and used, washed and cleaned in the dishwasher. They've already been manufactured, you can't help that, so make the best use of it and just reuse them over and over!

I wish I knew what to tell you. I guess we are fortunate, we have a trash bin and recycle bin that gets picked up every week... so we recycle a ton. I forget that it's not that way for everyone. Hopefully someone elase has the answers!

I would check with the company who handles your normal garbage. They most likely will have some resources to offer that would be helpful

Your town/city may be responsible for recycling, I'd check their Web site.

Many schools have paper recycling bins (think dumpsters) in the parking lot. They all take different things so check first before you dump.

We've reduced our waste by half by adding paper recycling on top of plastic and aluminum.
