not tacky at all...shower curtain or regular curtain, as long as it looks nice it shouldn't matter! I have sheer curtains over my closet, but they are bunched up enough that you can't really see behind them. They are white.
We have those stupid bi-fold closet doors in all our rooms in our house and most of them are falling apart or coming off the tracks. I would totally use some cool curtains or shower curtains to cover them up! In fact I think I will do that in the girls room and our laundry area in the hallway cause they are both missing one or both of the doors and I'm tired of them being wide open (especially the laundry one) and too cheap to replace them lol!
I think curtains would be pretty. And think of how much easier to clean...just pull em down and throw them in a washer. And easy to change the look of the room as well if you chose to just by changing the curtain
I have a curtain across a shelving/storage area in our master bathroom that is meant to be open storage. It's a neutral, earthy green and the fabric and the color both help to creat the "spa" feeling I want for my bathroom.
just get a nice rod and very functional rings/hooks.
We have curtains for closet doors in all of our bedrooms. (Who builds a house with no closet doors anyway???) The ones in our room are just white canvas-y type fabric and I hung it from a cafe rod with those little curtain clips. I made ones for the kids' closets that match their bedding too. Theirs have pockets for the rods. They work great and it's a LOT nicer than staring into your closet all the time!
we have a bathroom area that is not closed off with a door and if dh washes his hand, shaves or whatever with a light on...it shines in my face in the bedroom ... so we bought a regular curtain from target ... and put up a decorative curtain rod on the wall in the opening and hung it. Now I wish it was lined so it would block out even more light ... but it really does a good job and now I can sleep! Only took dh 17 years to put it up!
We bought a house that has curtains instead of doors in the closets, and honestly I don't like it. Maybe it's the particular curtains the previous owners chose, but it's just not my thing.
