Okay girlies.....tomorrow is DD's first OB appointment and I am going to take her! Then we are going to have lunch, grab her some Vitamin E oil and I want to buy her a good pregnancy book.
I am so stoked to see her. I haven't seen her since July 17th! And.....I get to see my grandbaby (even if it is digitally....hey, I love digital) too! What an amazing reunion this will be! I am not going to be able to sleep tonight I can already tell.
Any other suggestions to help cut down on stretch marks? Our family gets them REALLY bad! Or suggestions for the BEST pregnancy book you found?

Have fun & good luck!
I have no advice since I've never been preggo. lol
But, I found this book at Barnes & Noble one time & I'll definitely be getting it once I do get pregnant! It's not a "all about pregnancy" kind of book...just a fun one! http://www.amazon.com/Belly-Book-Nine-Month-Journal-Growing/dp/0307336182/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264025907&sr=8-1

How exciting NeeNee :) Have a great day with your daughter tomorrow! As far as books, I liked What to Expect When Your'e Expecting with my 1st baby.

I really liked the What to Expect book. With my first, I always read way ahead to see what was happening next. So exciting. And with my second I looked at it once or twice. With my third, I never opened a single book. Not that I'm a pro, just too busy to care. ha! Anyway, I liked it a lot. As far as stretch marks... I don't know. You can do cocoa butter, but I don't know if it helps. In my opinion it's pretty much all heritary. Maybe you can do a few things here and there, but pretty much, if the family gets them bad, everyone will... and if they don't, you won't. Not always the case, but that's been my experience talking with friends and such. good luck!

I dont think you can really avoid stretch marks. Cocoa butter supposedly helps but I dont think it does (I got stretch marks during pregnancy because I gained like 80 pounds). I think if you really watch your weight gain you can limit the stretching of the skin. As for books its been so long since I had kids (12 years + since I was pregnant). I know there are some cool sites online you can sign up for which will email what is going on with your pregnancy each week that you could have her sign up for.
Anyhow good luck and I hope the day goes really well and you get to see your grandbaby. Is she far enough along to know if its boy/girl yet? Or are you guys not sure how far along she is?

As far as stretch marks - no clue. I have terrible stretch marks - nothing worked for me.
I love What to Expect When You're Expecting. I also really liked The Pregnancy Journal: http://www.amazon.com/Pregnancy-Journal-Day-Day-Healthy/dp/081186989X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264026591&sr=8-1

I really liked Dr. Sears' The Pregnancy Book and The Baby Book with my first one. They are kind of geared toward attachment parenting, which I wasn't into but they had lots of great info on breastfeeding and other aspects of babies.
Have fun tomorrow! How exciting! :)

I also saw a journal type book at Barnes and Noble for her to write stuff in. Like food cravings and the first kick and all that. I wish I had done it with mine because now I dont really remember those little things and my kids ask and I cant remember.

We will find out tomorrow how far along she is. I am thinking by her estimate of her last period that she is about 11 or 12 weeks.
At what point can they start to be able to tell the sex? Around 20 or so weeks?

oh how fun! I don't have anything to add... all great suggestions so far... the only thing I can think of for stretch marks is to drink plenty of water... it won't prevent them but it will help them from getting all itchy.

I'm surprised at the OCD people saying they just "wing it." The "What to Expect" book was such a wonderful read for me...every little question had answers. I *needed* to know what the heck was going on with my body and what to expect up the road. For a first pregnancy, it was such a fabulous source of information--> peace of mind.
Of course, that was before the internet became what it is today, so I'm sure all the same info is online now.

i checked and it says 18-26 weeks is the best time to tell. Is she hoping for one or the other? With my first I was told it was a boy. I had boys everything...didnt even bother picking out a girls name and then I had my daughter LOL. I was kinda shocked when they said SHE is ok. I argued with my nurse that I was not having a girl and she kept saying that I did have a girl.

I'm extremely OCD but you also have to remember that NO baby is alike...none what so ever. All of my kids are completely different so what works for one person with one baby will not necessarily work for another person and their baby. I think there's TOO much information and stories of "what works" that it's overwhelming. You can pick up 3 different books and 3 different authors are going to tell you the "right" way to parent..it's nonsense to me. Have confidence in your mothering abilities and your intuition. Mother's intuition is always best.

I thought What to Expect and The girlfriend's guide to pregnancy were the perfect combination of books. No idea on the stretch marks - I think you can try to use vitamin E or lotions but it's just a genetic thing....I have a girlfriend that had triplets and she had not a single stretch mark until the week before they were born (35 weeks!) and I've known people that got horrible stretch marks with a single baby.....
I hope you two have a good visit and some bonding time.

yeah I agree that a book with the pregnancy related issues is a good idea..especially for a girl going into this without a clue of what's going to happen with her body. (assuming here..since she is so young)
I just don't agree with child rearing books all so much...lol I've always been a do it my way type of girl though. Some people NEED that direction and methods..

At what point can they start to be able to tell the sex? Around 20 or so weeks?
I think they usually say they can tell the sex starting around 18 weeks or so. I had an ultrasound at 16 weeks 6 days and the ultrasound tech was positive it is a boy. However, I went in for a "special" ultrasound at a maternal/fetal specialist, so I am wondering if maybe she has a better eye then say your ordinary ultrasound tech - since she was/is used to looking for abnormal/unusual things such as birth defects, etc.
At any rate, I think the norm is kind of to do an ultrasound early when your first go in, and then another one around 20-22 weeks. At that second trimester ultrasound is when you can usually find out the sex if you want.
Good luck tomorrow! It will be an awesome experience and great bonding time for the two of you!

Jenny McCarthy's books are must haves! I also loved What to Expect When You are Expecting. As for stretch marks, ugh, I had 1 on a scar before I went into labor which shocked me cause I have them just from growing. After I came out of labor, I had an entire maze on the lower half of my stomach, I thought maybe I just couldn't see them before, but I was assured that they weren't there before. I had been putting stuff on my stomach the whole time, too.

totally agree here! I have read bits and pieces of maybe two "baby" books or "sleep" books and they drove me nuts because my babies have never done anything like "the books." but I LOVED pregnancy books. (well, the one I read... haha)
then I have the most OCD friend ever (and a control freak) who had read 5 billion books and it going nuts that her baby isn't doing anything in any of them and keeps trying to find more books to get the answers. Let it go already! Seriously, it drives me nuts seeing her go nuts because of books. yeah.

How exciting! I hope its a great day for both of you! I agree with the book suggestions. I happy that What to Expect is still so popular, it was given to me by my first doctor, but that was 18 years ago
Jessica - When I had my last baby it was an emergency c-section. I was only 37 weeks so the baby had to go to the NICU for several hours. They finally brought it in around midnight. The nurse said "now remember, when you change the diaper don't pull back the head of the penis." I almost started crying - my house was an explosion of pink!! Thankfully she was wrong and I really did have a girl.

I'm another one for the What To Expect When You're Expecting book. I also bought a What To Expect Journal, which I LOVED. I wrote down everything in it, and I am so glad I did!
As for stretch marks, I tried everything. And I got them baaaaaaaaaad. So bad that when the doctor walked in to deliver Ava, she said "Woooah - do you ever have stretch marks!", and then said I was in the running for the top 2 worst cases she'd seen of it. Nice.

Exactly! I did a bit of looking into it already today and as soon as I know the babies due date tomorrow, I am going to get signed up. That way I can have journaling things to go along with any pictures we have or B's feelings, etc. It can be a mother/daughter project.

Okay - I know I'm late to the party (again), but I had a few thoughts.
As others have mentioned, babycenter.com is fun. Once you plug in the baby's due date, they will send you a weekly e-mail telling you what is going on with your pregnancy, how the baby is developing, etc. It's kind of cool. Also, if you find that you have any sort of complications or other questions during your pregnancy, the community at babycenter is great about answering questions and offering support. I found lots of good information about my thyroid issues over there during my last pregnancy.
For diapers, wipes, and other stuff like that, you HAVE to check out the Subscribe and Save option at Amazon.com. We usually buy Huggies, and we have found that it's cheaper than Costco. You go to the product you want to buy, and over on the right hand side, it will have a button for Subscribe and Save. You can tell it how often you want it delivered. You get 15% off and free shipping. And, then you sit back and wait. Diapers and wipes appear on your doorstep care of your loving UPS guy once a month (or as often as you have chosen). We buy diapers, wipes, Pull Ups, and toilet paper this way. And, I'm sure there are a bunch of other things we could do too, we just haven't gotten around to it yet. I LOVE it! And, it saves money too. I don't think you can subscribe for Newborn size diapers, but you only use those for a short time anyway. Once the baby is in Size 1/2, you're good to go!
Good luck with the Dr. appointment NeeNee! How fun! It's so true that it doesn't matter what the circumstances are, every baby is a blessing to be cherished and loved. I know you daughter will appreciate your support so much!
