New Techniques

Hey girls!

When I was finishing up my LO last night, i decided to throw on a few pieces of scotch tape from KCB's Artist's Canvas kit. I added a simple drop shadow to the tape, hoping it would be subtle and realistic, but it didn't look right at all.

Then I used the eraser tool at 50% opacity and started erasing my tape layer. I realized that where I erased it was starting to create that effect of part of the tape being pushed down really well and some of it being a bit looser (you know how that matte finish scotch tape looks?)

Anyhow - I liked it so much that I just used the eraser down the center of the tape and a few spots along the edge and voila - I think it was a pretty cool tape effect!

If you guys already knew this - why didn't anyone tell me before?! LOL!

EDIT: here's the closeup:

So - what technique have you learned/discovered recently? Share it here so the rest of us can benefit!!

Can't wait to see the closeup! I don't have any new techniques to share because I just switched from PhotoImpact to CS3, and I've been busy relearning how to do everything. But I will share a great Photoshop tutorial site. Again, maybe everyone knows about it already, but there are a ton of great, free tutorials at Photoshop Essentials. They're not specific to scrapping, but they are great for learning PS.

WHAT?? no one has any new techniques to share? I don't believe it...

anyhow, I edited the original post to have a closeup from the tape. I think I can still play around with where to erase to get something more realistic in the future. I might also use a softer edge brush (I used a hard round).

I love making stamped alpha look like they were stamped over a picture. You create a new layer and then put your alpha/brush on that. Then duplicate that alpha layer and place it underneath whatever you have stamped on top of. Then go back to the top layer and clip it to your photo. Select the bottom layer and take a small brush (i use a square brush) and erase a tiny bit of the letters so it looks like it was missed in the stamping. Here is an example on my LO:

stumbled upon some great tutorials over on the design house digital blog, like this one on how to make your own digital "punch" and this one which is yet another way to weave digi elements from some really really talented ladies ...

Beckie, that looks awesome and how kind of you to share it!
I can't wait to check out these others links. you gals rock.

I LOVE these new techniques!! One other tip - every month now I've been printing out the Scrapper's portfolio and I tuck it into my scrap journal. i also write down page ideas I want to do (like funny things the kids say, etc). Well last month I also started jotting down techniques I wanted to use.

So now when I go to scrap it is SO EASY! I pick the even i want to scrap from my list, find otu which category works for the scrappers portfolio, and then check to see if there are any techniques that would help make my page "pop"!

So I love having new techniques to put on my list, thanks for sharing girls!
