Pretty Proud of Myself...

Last night my best friends and I headed to a pub, armed with fake names (we would have been caught out if they asked for ID, we're all legal but just wanting to have some fun acting) and the knowledge that Saturday night was karaoke night. Everybody there were obviously regulars and were SO GOOD I was crapping myself. My no-fear friends went first and did an awesome job! I nervously handed my song choice over and was called upon to do it shortly after...

I just wanted to let everyone know that I faced my fear of singing publicly! I busted out a sort of shonky rendition of 'Heaven is a Place on Earth' to woops and whistles. I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. If I lived here I would go every weekend.

Have any of you tried karaoke? Tell me your stories!

never done it myself but my sister and her ex-husband were regulars. I used to go with her all the time. They actually started their own karaoke business before they split up.

I can't sing (though I was in choir, even in college..lol), but have done it in big groups when I was in high school.

yay!!! good for you ebony! sounds like it was so much fun!

i've never done karaoke. the closest would be when i sang in a choir in highschool (it was either choir or dance so i picked the lesser of two evils lol!) but there were like 80 other girls to drown me out and hide the fact that i'm tone deaf and couldn't even carry a tune in a bucket :p

Sounds so fun! I LOVE the scene in My Best Friend's Wedding where they sing karaoke. There are karaoke boxes here where you can give it a whirl without an audience. Totally fun!

Congrats on facing your fear!! I used to represent my school in singing but now I'm 'retired' LOL. Feels great to sing in front of an audience, isn't it? To me it felt liberating!

The very first time I sang karoke was after I got my first tattoo.
Me and a couple of girlfriends headed to a pub we had never visited and
ended up singing Sitting on the Dock of the Bay...and it was not a pretty sight as I can't carry a tune in a bucket...but we had a blast and so did the audience at the time. =)

I will definitely be scrapping this :) My friends snapped some shots of me, now I just need a kit.. can you suggest any?

I have Pop Rocks by Dani Mogstad. It has a microphone w/stand.

Oh, and that kit is in Penny Candy so it's on sale. Bonus.

that is soooo fun! Never in my life have I done any singing in public. That would not be good for anyone, lol! I can't wait to see your pics!

Only when VERY drunk and therefore thankfully have NO recollection of utter humiliation and the ear bleeding that ensued while I sang what I thought everyone would love - I have been told they did not ...(something that Susan Boyle would sing like Le Mis cover) It is best to keep my Karaoke to the Lego Rock Band Variety in my living room

I've never done it, either! way to go girl, that's super brave!!

I sing in my living room...when I'm not bustin' out on the drums, that is! Don't think I could do it in front of total strangers though!

Pop Rocks looks AWESOME!

You are way braver than me. Instead of whoops and whistles I'm sure they would be booing me off the stage. I just don't think I could handle that...so...I'll stay in the audience!

Good for you hun! takes alot of guts (or alcohol) to do that! lol

we used to go to karaoke almost every weekend when we were younger. We had a few friends that were really good, so they would sing, and we would cheer and dance.

Im can sort of carry a tune (alot better than some people at karaoke) but i was always too shy to get up and have a go. My friend has about a zillion karaoke songs on her laptop and a microphone, so from time to time, she has about 10 friends over and we have a lil karaoke party. I need a few wines to even sing there! but its good fun!

That's awesome for you to do! There's no way I would...I don't even sing in front of my husband. He just found out a few months ago that I sing a LOT during the day, in front of my kids. He didn't know I liked to sing. LOL

Thanks so much! This has been in my wish list for ages and I completely scroll past it every time. Probs because my list is awfully long nowadays! Will be sure to add to my cart when I purchase my choice of the Petit Fours.

Oh good. Glad you like the suggestion. Can't wait to see the page you make.

I worked retail in college, and one of the assistant managers was turning 21 and coaxed me into going out with her. It was such an odd group: her, her just turned 21 yo cousin, another one of the asst managers, our 40something yo coworker, the 40yo's BFF, and me. *lol*

Anyway, the birthday gurl and her cousin were already wasted by the time we made it to the 'townie' karaoke bar. Although I was recently engaged (to my ex) at the time, my rings were being resized, so I appeared single and was absolutely floored when the cute-ish karaoke director kept hitting on me throughout the night. Seriously, besides my ex and my hubby, maybe 2 guys have hit on me in my entire life!

The group finally decided on Tone Loc's 'Wild Thing,' but when they hit the stage, they all just kept almost falling over on each other and whooping and laughing and protesting that they didn't know any of the words. Karaoke Director and I were the only two to follow along on the prompter and sing.

It really was a lot of fun. I'd love to do it again. Maybe I will convince Kellie or Jamie or Emmy *snort* to do some karaoke when we meet up in Chicago?!

Hehe - that is such a fun story LA! You should definitely go again... I can't wait until my next time :)
