I've done a virus scan...nothing.
I've checked programs...nothing.

But for some reason, my computer is randomly freezing up and then I have to shut it down with the power button.

Any ideas what the heck is going on?

thanks in advance for any help!

Is it making any noises that it doesn't normally make? (Clicking, high-pitch whine, excessive drive spinning??)

When exactly does it happen? When you have Photoshop open? For how long? Other programs?

What you can do is this: Check how much space is left on C: This is where PS puts its temp file and PS is known to create HUGE files which can make the PC crash if not enough space is left on C:

If there is not a lot of space left, check if you can free up some space. If you can't, in Photoshop under edit, preferences and then performance change the scratch disk from C: to another, fast drive with sufficient free space. In fact, PS recomments to not put the scratch disk onto the drive you boot with, which is C:

I haven't had PS open since it started, and this is the longest I've gone all day without it freezing... Almost an hour now. lol. I'll check the PS preferences when I get home :)

Thank you girlies!

My dad's PC had a problem like this and I was baffled. I found this forum http://forums.techguy.org/ and the guys on there really helped me out. I did have a virus. One that was under the radar, but they found it and walked me through getting it off. McAffe didn't find it, Norton didn't find it, Trend Micro didn't find it. It was a little bit of a process, but it finally got fixed.
HTHs,
Best of Luck,

Have you ever tried defragmenting your hard drive? I know that will sometimes make things run faster and smoother.

Also, clear your internet cache....that has helped me in the past as well.

Just a little update -- I ***think*** it's all better now. When I didn't have the internet in use, it was fine so yesterday, I only got online to upload pages or download kits and then I realized -- maybe there is an update for my browser? lol, so I updated, I uninstalled some addons that I never use and so far so good. Knock on wood!

Thanks for all your help girls!
