Hee Hee I just had to laugh out loud. I'm watching the snowboarding cross at the olympics and my commentator just said that the girl fell and landed on her fanny. Now I know that you Americans and us Brits sometimes call things different things but in England your fanny is NOT your bottom. Ummm, it's at the front and not the back :p

It just sounds so funny to hear someone saying that on the television. It cracked me up.

I know, so childish :p
 
hahaha thats funny! lol I don't know why i thought this but I always thought the term "fanny" behind came from england. guess not :P

Ugh, I LOVE the snowboard stuff. I hate having a real job when the olympics are on, I always miss awesome stuff!!
 
Heehee, the differences across the pond can definitely cause a giggle (and sometimes a raised eyebrow)....like the Brit who asked 18yr old me if he could come knock me up. I'm thinking...um....I just met you, dude... Imagine his mortification when I informed him that over here, being knocked up means being pregnant. LOL
 
Well I can't imagine that, but imagine all the horrified Australian designers when someone proclaims that they like their doodle (of course the male designers would be quite flattered if you get my drift ;) .
 
lol...at least fanny isn't a very used term here. We mostly just say butt, though I did teach my son bum cause it sounded less crude. :glare: lol
 
Too funny!! But also good to know ;) Anything else we should be careful of? I noticed on one of those 'nanny' shows they kept calling dirty diapers "nappies" (we take nappies...but we mean sleep :)

I remember a thread about this way back in the early days of DST and I've never looked at the word "doodle" the same since. :D
 
I'm in a male-dominated field, and one of my female co-workers was in Ireland for business in a meeting with a bunch of men. When the meeting ended she was looking to share a ride back to the hotel, and said "can anyone give me a ride?"

As she's telling us this story, the guy with us at the time from Ireland starts laughing hysterically saying "I'm sure they were all dying to give you a ride"...

apparently you're supposed to say "give me a lift" when you're requesting TRANSPORTATION...:p

I'd love to know what he thought it meant?? I'm over this side of the pond too and knocked up is, well....knocked up! I've never heard it used to refer to anything other than being pregnant :D
